I, at 14/15, realised that anyone can be brilliant at anything. It is about putting your mind to it. Work. I couldn't sing, play guitar, drums. Have never had a lesson and am now great at one, profficient in others. We are all equal. He just chose, to think and then pass on his knowledge. Not that many people listen well. :P
Oh, and obviously not him alone. Everyone he works with adds.

I agree, but he still deserves more attention than other self-proclamed "artists". He has wisdom and creative energies that others need to hear and feel. It's nice to finally have a band sing about things deeper than just broken hearts and open wounds.

It's not just how well you say something, it is what you are saying. He says things through his music that are bigger than the words themselves. @ADealWithTheDevil agreed, Yeah he's a great writer and vocalist, but he needs Danny Carey , Adam Jones, Justin Chancellor and artists like them to be successful, the people he writes and create music with are just as talented as he, if not more so. Look at the successful projects he's been involved in and the musicians and techs amongst them, all from the same ilk. Tool fans put way too much into Maynard himself. He's a great talent, but you don't know shit about him personally . weirdos.
