Had elections been held in South Vietnam in July 1956 as given in the Geneva Accords and Agreements, Ho Chi Minh would have been elected by the majority of SOUTH Vietnamese. Vietnam could then have been reunified peacefully without the need for a second war. But the South Vietnamese did not want to relinquish power to an elected leader in Ho Chi Minh and the US did not want Ho Chi Minh leading a unified Vietnam. The South Vietnamese and the US brought the Vietnam War on themselves.
Did the North Vietnamese break the 1973 Paris Peace Accords? Yes they did. But then the South Vietnamese and the Americans broke the 1954 Geneva Accords when the Americans refused to allow elections in South Vietnam in order to prevent an almost certain electoral victory by Ho Chi Minh. The South Vietnamese and the US set the pattern of breaking peace accords. The moral is: don't whine, you started it.

@MrAquafan That was 3 corps, Area of Operations based out of Bien Hoa and Long Binh along with MACV at Thon Son Nhut air base. This was an area of heavy VC control but was greatly reduced after 68 Tet Offensive. They had a huge tunnel system down there, US/ARVN dug alot of them up, but not all of them. This was north of Saigon. This was charlie'sarea along with ARVN but US fought alot there too. SOG and Phoenix operated out ot there too on the Riverines.

The agreement was that they would find a peaceful resolution with South Vietnam and we would help rebuild the nation. When North Vietnam conquered the South in 1975 they broke the treaty and freed us of any financial obligation. We didn't lose we agreed to a peaceful solution. They freed us from it.

We are forever freed by this act, we no longer have to give any aid whatsoever to Vietnam and no court will ever challenge the 1973 peace agreement. It was specified that US owed nothing to Vietnam and Congress forbade any money ever again going to Vietnam.

I don't see how these pictures are 100% propaganda. I see training and weapons stashes, and captured American munitions, which is something you'd normally expect from warfare. The United States couldn't win every single battle it fought you know, and the enemy's army wasn't just a ragtag bunch of militia, the North actually did have a very capable and organized army.

Had elections been held in South Vietnam in July 1956 as given in the Geneva Accords and Agreements, Ho Chi Minh would have been elected by the majority of SOUTH Vietnamese. Vietnam could then have been reunified peacefully without the need for a second war. But the South Vietnamese did not want to relinquish power to an elected leader in Ho Chi Minh and the US did not want Ho Chi Minh leading a unified Vietnam. The South Vietnamese and the US brought the Vietnam War on themselves.

Did the North Vietnamese break the 1973 Paris Peace Accords? Yes they did. But then the South Vietnamese and the Americans broke the 1954 Geneva Accords when the Americans refused to allow elections in South Vietnam in order to prevent an almost certain electoral victory by Ho Chi Minh. The South Vietnamese and the US set the pattern of breaking peace accords. The moral is: don't whine, you started it.

@MrAquafan That was 3 corps, Area of Operations based out of Bien Hoa and Long Binh along with MACV at Thon Son Nhut air base. This was an area of heavy VC control but was greatly reduced after 68 Tet Offensive. They had a huge tunnel system down there, US/ARVN dug alot of them up, but not all of them. This was north of Saigon. This was charlie'sarea along with ARVN but US fought alot there too. SOG and Phoenix operated out ot there too on the Riverines.

The agreement was that they would find a peaceful resolution with South Vietnam and we would help rebuild the nation. When North Vietnam conquered the South in 1975 they broke the treaty and freed us of any financial obligation. We didn't lose we agreed to a peaceful solution. They freed us from it.

@KatiushaVN4 When North Vietnam attacked South Vietnam, they broke the treaty. Under the terms of the treaty we would give billions of dollars in aid for both North and South Vietnam. We are forever freed by this act, we no longer have to give any aid whatsoever to Vietnam and no court will ever challenge the 1973 peace agreement. It was specified that US owed nothing to Vietnam and Congress forbade any money ever again going to Vietnam.

I don't see how these pictures are 100% propaganda. I see training and weapons stashes, and captured American munitions, which is something you'd normally expect from warfare. The United States couldn't win every single battle it fought you know, and the enemy's army wasn't just a ragtag bunch of militia, the North actually did have a very capable and organized army.

With that and with Communism in EU collapsed, most vietnamese nowadays believe US was not aggressive enough during VN war. A friend of mine used to capture NVA officers, Colonels and above, take them out into the bush, kill them, cut out their liver and take a bite out of their liver, he said it freaked the gooks out, they couldn't get into buddah heaven like that! Spooky! I just loved to see gooks roasting in napalm, sometimes they were so close I could see the horror in their eyes.

We were there to hold back the spread of communism in SE Asia We kept communists to the Indochina peninsula, Maylasia, Indonesia, Philipines were all communist ambitions, we stopped all of that.
