"You are panicky and very confident at the same time." Insightful comment and totally summed up what I was sort of thinking about the student from the very beginning. Of course, to put things in perspective, I feel for the student because I used to have the problem of not playing with enough bow. Actually, I probably still do, hah.
awww...i feel sooo sorry for him; hes trying his best(punctuated by little smiles when he gets it right) but Heifetz just keeps knocking him down but i guess thats what teachers are for(to help you get better, not to spend time telling you what you've done well)
Compared to someone like Joshua Bell or Nigel Kennedy, this boy plays well. Compared to Heifetz, the best you can be is 2nd rate. He is rushing & playing with short bows because he's very nervous. He sounds like he in a big hurry to get somewhere. Heifetz always played briskly but his playing never sounded rushed. He used full bows & his tornadolike tone complimented his brisk tempi. This is, perhaps, the best example of violin teaching I have ever seen. MORE BOW-- that is the message.
@AntaresCortinas Yes, you are absolutely right. Galamian used to tell his students that quite a lot. But no one can say MORE BOW, MORE BOW as Heifetz said it. Even in his teaching, Heifetz was truly unique.
This blonde guy is the best in class so far, which is not saying much

Blond guy was totally not taking the instruction, not sure if it was outright or if he was nervous.

You can really tell when Heifetz starts playing.

Thanks for the post waxenwings89. Wonderful.!!!!
It amazes me how Heifetz could jump up from his
desk, and without any warmup at all, play like that.
