How do you avoid having to deal with deinterlacing? I know it's 24p, but for some reason even if I shoot in 30p or 24p on my HV30, I have to deinterlace the footage in Sony Vegas, and the result is a lot of lost information with anything moving, so it actually looks a lot worse than if I shot in 30p for whatever reason.
Very nice. I'll have to get a couple HV40's to be my B & C cams for my JVC HD110. I think they might cut together fairly well with minimal color correct in 24p. Oh, and I shoot sports all the time in 24p. Looks killer, though you have to be carefull about empty pans, better to do a whip pan to catch up then that medium fast pan that everyone got accustomed to in 60i.
Panning is huge issue with 24P, there is a video of a "350Z Rollin' HD" that messed around with the frame shutter speeds which helps eliminate that panning strobing issue...
great video quality. I also have canon hv40. still learning how to work with it, so many options.
Also i should get a direction microphone i think.
And native 24p is the standard video it uses i guess. Is the "hickups"(short standing still periods) because of youtube, or because of 24 p? I have the same with my latest videos. someone said 60p, i wonder how to get that on the camera.
I just got my camera too. The built in microphone picks up everything. I can hear myself holding the camera to hearing the camera zoom in and out. I hope the external mic I bought will help.
yea don't use automatic exposure at night unless it's really bright, just go into manual exposure and push the joystick button until you get that exposure slider, I just knock it down 2 or 3 ticks and leave it there, auto will give you acceptable exposure but it will be a bit grainy. Also don't do any quick pans in 24F mode unless you adjust the shutter speed to 100 or so in TV mode, I would suggest going out one night and doing a ton of tests, 24p on this camera hates pans as they look blurry.
This is all you need to get started in filmmaking. Not all the fancy shit, unboxing videos, and glitter, save it for the carnival.
Props for getting it out of the box off camera, shooting some fine locations, and giving the viewer some content to go with the camera.

They use it all over in India for a multitude of things, nothing specific, it's not edible tho.

@FlyingOverTr0ut You have to remove pulldown, HV30 shoots 24p within 60i stream. HV40 shoots 24p natively so no conversion is needed.

Great Job, do you use an external microphone ? regards
momentodigital 1 year ago
@momentodigital
The mic on this camera sucks, if you want to shoot anything professional or broadcast you'll need an external mic, this has not XLR input tho...

you're not supposed to shoot sports or other action in 24p cinema mode. shooting in 60p with this cam will look great

Hey, are you able to save this native 24P footage to the memory card, or can you only capture it to the tape? Thanks!

There is no tape noise, but the mic is not very good on this camera, it needs an add-on mic for good sound.

The reds are just amazing. How did you find the tape system for body or recording tape noise?

ausinukai 2 years ago
Go into manual mode and bring down the exposure until the grain goes away, auto mode at night with this camera isn't very good.
WingsOfDay 2 years ago
How in the world did you get those deep rich blacks? I've never seen such good night stuff from a $700 camera.
