I served in VP-22 as an inflight radio operator 1982-86. I had the privilege of sitting right behind Doug for hundreds of hours. I remember there was something about Doug that just really never changed. Oh yeah it was his hair...movie star like and not one single hair ever out of place...lol! I really do miss the missions, shenanigans (ie: Branding the Tower in Cubi Pt.), and all of my shipmates. Long live those memories VP-22! James "Hollywood" L.
Doug and I flew together in VP-22. It was an extreme joy and privilege to share a P-3 cockpit with the Navy's absolute BEST flight engineer. Sharing my airborne 'flights of fancy' with Doug is the highlight of nearly 50 years aloft. Few aviators are as truly blessed -- only wish we could do it again....sweet dreams!
Doug.....you're a "movie star" First Doug Atkins in Top Gun and now you. I remember being a wet Ensign 3P with you, Otto, Schutz ,Barefoot, Delp and Dalton Edwards. Hope you're well.
