Boromir, mightiest warrior of all the company, was how Tolkien described him. He lead by example and he only wished to see the glory of Gondor restored - he just wanted to do it by using the same weapon of the enemy. In the end, he did see the true aspect of the ring and its malicious intents, it was just too late... :(
I can't understand people hates Boromir.Come on he is a human and in story nearly no human could say no to ring.Yes he wanted it first but then he fought bravely and protected his company. He is a brave man sorry,He is a brave Lord Of Gondor.
The mightiest of the company yet his fate about the quest was dangerously weak and almost destroyed the chances of success. Tolkien wanted to teach us that being the strongest at arms does not make you the best leader. There are many strengths that a person can have and that only Faramir & Denethor had the true Numenorioan Blood running through their veins - not Boromir.
Still one of my favorite characters and miss him a lot :(
@21Leon I may be wrong, but i thought that Aragorn was pretty much the only man left alive with the blood of Numenor in his veins. I remember a part of the book and the extended edition film where Gandalf explains that the true Kings with Numenorian blood remained childless and spent too long gazing into the stars, and the line of kings failed or something. Might be wrong though :P
@123ABanga Aaaah, but that happened ages before when they were still in their prime strength. The Numenorians had many kings ruling smaller kingdoms (the ringwraiths for example, were all Kings), but then there was the Highest King who ruled all other Kings, one of them was Elendil. When the Witch King attacked Arnor (the last kingdom which had a true High King of the Numenorians) and destroyed it, the ancestors of Aragorn fled and made refuge in Rivendell.
@123ABanga Part 2: Denethor and Faramir had some Numenorian blood in their veins. They were strong in body and most importantly their minds - thus did Faramir release Frodo with the Ring, because he could see with his mind that it was beyond him. Boromir was mostly strong in body but could not see far away with his mind. Also remember that those which were completely true in Numenorian blood lived a very long life! The Dunedain Rangers (Grey Company) were pure Numenorian blood too.
