There are some inaccuracies in this outline of the history of bonsai. Research point to the origins of bonsai coming from the silk road between china, india and beyond. Trees where dwarfed for transportation purposes to be brought to china. At this point it was not an art but had a functional purpose.
The transition from China to Japan was through a Japanese diplomat who brought the practice to Japan. As time passed it was turned into an artform in Japan and spread globally from there.
I think this works that since the tree gets older it grows slower and since you trim it you make it stay small and doesnt affect the tree so its as if the tree is full grown just like if a guy trimmed your legs of continuously but you were still alive you would still age you would just be small
these videos are great for beginners. they really thourouly go through what to do and how to look after bonsais. nd how any tree can b a bonsai. keep up the great work.
i dont quite understand the art of bonsai. Is it cutting the shape of the tree? making it a smaller version of a tree? or preserving the Japanese culture?
These Videos are of Mike Hansen from MBP bonsai studio in Pflugerville TX. He is one of the top bonsai professionals in the world. I am glad to have him as a teacher.
@danicasalcena07 I am going to be using Moss. But I'd assume you could plant grass around, you'd have to keep it cut. It would also probably take soil and room from the tree, making it grow much slower. You may have to feed a little more often.
I'm no Bonsai-ist, yet. Hope this helps you out, though.
Totally agree! The only thing that I find curious is how it came to the U.S. I just can't imagine some of these grizzled, rough and tumble, John Wayne type veterans getting excited about a little tree :-P
Hey I have just bought Juniperus seeds and am looking forward to seeing the end result. Can you please advise the correct method for planting the seeds? Cheers. Matt
