You should learn all your scales and master every note chromatically from F above the staff and Bb not natural B because you are not playing a bass practice tones and after your slide positions are cleaned up and mastered ( which they should have before even going near that solo) then go back to it. Study a positions chart do something to eliminate all that confusing scribble scrabble of the music. ( it is defiantly ok in a tricky passage where you have to use the trigger here and there) this g

Not great but she seems to improving. Listen to some of her other solos (esp. Bolero and Valkyrie) and you will see definite improvement here. Considering she needs slide positions written out I assume she isn't really a trombone player; perhaps her boyfriend's trombone? Most people springing for a decent 'bone would at least practice enough to learn the fingerings. I think she should keep practicing and posting. At least she makes serious trombonists sound better by comparison.

I have a theory. This could be wrong, but it seems likely to me because I've done the same kind of thing in symphony before or after rehearsals. give an extra trombone to someone who doesnt play. give them a brief lesson on where the positions are. show the how to make it look like they're playing. then, you film them pretending to play something, while someone out of view plays it, in this case intentionally badly. theres a video of Michael Buble doing the same thing with his trombonist.

OK, after a bit of chuckling, I realized that "Mulcahy" actually has quite a good tone on the trombone. I know a lot of fellow PRO trombonists who have WORSE tones. Also, she at least pulls into the correct pitch, something again that quite a few trombonists seem to not have the ear to do.

Ms Mulcahy actually sounds a bit better on the Mahler than her other trombone videos. She actually has some potential. She has a good basic sound and does a pretty good job filling an orchestral bore trombone. If she worked a bit on basics like intonation and endurance she'd sound worlds better. I swear I could have her sounding pretty good after a few lessons.
