Gandhi was a British puppet. As soon as Gandhi came into the scene the Indian revolutionary movement died out, British became more powerful and it seemed India was doomed to eternel slavery. What saved India was outbreak of WWII and the advance of Japanese troops all the way upto Burma. The Indian soldiers who fought against Japanese troops refused to accept British as their masters anymore. They began to revolt and British had to give in. Japan and not Gandhi gave India freedom.

Sikhs of course contributed greatly, and so did the navy with their mutiny, it wasn't Gandhi alone. But we should respect the man and acknowledge his accomplishments, as he was indispensable. Without Gandhiji, God knows how long it would've taken to liberate India.

@SriSrishankaracharya hahaha why would you say this shit? gandhi was not a nazi. the only reason he wrote to hitler - just twice - was to try to convince him of the power of non-violence.

@bobzilla211 he also told him he didn't think he was as bad as everyone made out he was. And that the Jews of Europe should allow themselves to be slaughtered until the Nazis felt bad. And that Britain should surrender to Hitler and simply refuse to cooperate with the occupation.
Conversely, Hitler told the British they should shoot Gandhi so that India would settle down.
There's no point standing up for Gandhi, he was completely out of touch by 1939.

@Slypaperclips hitler would have had a much harder time repressing the population and exterminating millions under peacetime conditions. that much is obvious. the rest of it, however silly it might look in the face of impending war, is just him being consistently pacifist. while i wouldn't agree with his idea, its being a bit rich to suggest the man was pro-hitler.

@bobzilla211 when did I say he was pro-Hitler? He was a deluded individual working on a completely different level from Hitler or anyone else for that matter. His 'non-violent' protest and pro-Hindu tendencies contributed signficantly to the bloodbath that was 1947. Gandhi caused his fair share of deaths, because he had a very naive image of humanity.
