Just got and beat this game on the neo cd and I have to say this was the most amazing beat em up I have ever played. The variety in the gameplay and the stages is crazy and the music is amazing. This is a true masterpiece in every way.

Sengoku 3 is the best 2d brawler ever. Really, the game is awesome: five characters, lots of moves, great graphics... Really, I've never played a 2d brawler as good as that.

I wanted a Neo-geo AES so bad. I almost bought one once off this merchant in a purple cloak I found hanging out in my hallway for some reason. But when I tried to buy it from him he just replied in a raspy accent of undefinable origin "Not enough cash! ...Stranger." He said he had some rare things on sale though but even at clearance prices the AES was to many spinels for my inventory. He told me to come back anytime but I haven't seen him sense..

@thurlsworld i just think that the snk fighters had so much more depth (especially king of fighters) than the capcom fighting games they sunk a whole bunch of time into their games before they released them and it was apparent in the progression they made over the years. Street fighter on the other hand just felt (to me) like they had way too many rehashes and not enough original ideas (i mean seriously) how many ryu knockoffs were in the new street fighter 4 absolutely ridiculous.

Wow this game looks awesome! I have to look for this on my xbox console emu disc! You record this on VHS?! Wow. it looks great. The only bad part is the top of the video is out of sync but i didn't even notice that until you mentioned something. Then i stared at the video for imperfections. I just use a vhs to dvd converter. :) Awesome video!

Best "side-scrolling beat 'em ups" are Streets of Rage, Final Fight, Brawl Brothers, and Ninja Turtles 4 Turtles in Time!

Castlevania, the Rebirth, came out, and after watching this review, so glad it did. Tired of all the "street fighter" looking games out there. Let's get back to sidescrollers with original design. Mario1 is better than this crap. Serious, if you need to sacrifice your games with visuals instead of storyline and originality, it's obvious you get your games second-hand ALL THE TIME! Peace.

I'm a little disappointed in this review. There was very little research put into it. A simple search on the web would have given you not only the story, but what other systems it came out for, other sequels, and other info. I think this would have added more relevant information to the review and fleshed it out. Much of your review you stated the game was good, but didn't talk about the gameplay system or how it worked. Nonetheless, Sengoku 2 is a great game. I suggest you try out 3 as well.

All Neo-Geo systems base the game region on the system's region coding, not the games - the games include all language versions that were made. He must have a Japanese Neo-Geo CD system.

Also, yeah, the first two Sengoku games are okay, but the third one is fantastic, easily the best beat 'em up on the Neo-Geo. Cart only game though, no CD version.

All three Sengoku games were on Neo-Geo AES and MVS. The first two were also on NGCD. Finally the first had Japan-only Sega CD and SNES ports.

If you look through some of the other related sengoko 2 videos there's a few that look as if they were played on emulators and captured directly. The colors and picture sharpness are much sharper and vivid in the actual game. There is also Sengoko 3 which I think is arcade only.. but the visuals are at the peak of 2D quality.

I did some research and it turns out that Sengoku 3 isn't on the NeogeoCD. In fact There were only 300 Aes copies of that game ever produced. Looks like your only likely option to play the game is to get the MVS cart and get a consolized MVS. I just looked on ebay and Sengoku 3 MVS is going for around 150$ ouch!

Sengoku 2 is an excellent game but Sengoku 3 is my favorite beatemup for the NeoGeo. I would definitely check it out since it came out in 2001 which by then SNK was mainly focusing on fighters. Plus I believe it was SNK's last game before SNK became SNK Playmore. The Gameplay is off the wall in Sengoku 3 as you can choose between 4 different characters and 2 bonus charaters and you can do super awsome combos. Definitely check Sengoku 3 out you won't be dissapointed!
