While the RX-8 this concept is based on is currently on sale at most Mazda Dealers, this specific RX-8 concept shown in the video, is a custom one-off RX-8 and not for sale (as far as I know).

However, you might be able to get some of these same parts and elements from the concept version as options on a new RX-8 from a Mazda / Mazdaspeed Dealer.

Good question...There are rumors that Mazda is developing a whole new Rotary Model with a next gen Rotary Engine that may turn out to be a new RX-7...It doesn't seem like the RX-8 will continue in production much longer (I could be wrong though) and if the RX-8 were to be phased out...It would be possible that some sort of Mazdaspeed "style" limited edition version would be offered as a sort of last hurrah before the end of the line for the RX-8.

There is little doubt that the next gen Mazda Rotary model will have to be more efficient, produce fewer emissions and pump out more power than the current RX-8 in order to be competitive on the open market...A tough task indeed!

In anycase...I'm a big fan of the RX-8 (especially the recently restyled version) and I would love to see a Mazdaspeed version!

ew why so low numbers? 232/159? put the 2.3 direct injection turbo from the ms6/ms3 in this car... would love to see that motor in a roadster

It's a NA 2rotor...Although it seems to be low on power compared to Mazda's 2.3 DIT...It's light weight, smooth power delivery and high rpm character make it very appealing to some drivers.

That said...It would be very interesting to see how the RX-8 would feel with the engine from the MS3/MS6.

It's definitely a "sharper" and "tighter" design but some people still prefer the style of the original RX-8...Personally, I like both! :D

There are plenty of updates for the 2009 RX-8 but I believe the engine itself has not been updated...Still produces 232 HP & 159 ftlb torque...The big news will be when the next gen Rotary Mazda is announced which should be sporting an all new Rotary engine! :D

This RX-8 might be the only thing that would make me want to sell my 2005 RX-8 and buy a different well a newer version of the same car, lol. For those on here that don't own an RX-8, once you have driven one and get to know the handling characteristics you will be hooked for life. I did a few minor mods which opened my car up to about 25 more rwhp and lowered it 1.25" with adjustable suspension. My friend who owns a 2005 WRX sti has driven my 8 and says it handles better than his upgraded STi

Yeah...That would be a very nice combo...Although some people don't like this concept MS RX-8...I dig it and I know everyone would love a Renesis 20B!

That said...I don't think Mazda will go with a 20B again for a street car (only for racing) as they are focusing on a Hybrid/Hydrogen version that will not only be cleaner but also have better fuel economy and still perform!

I'm only guessing though but despite the price of gas these days...I absolutely love my 20B and it's sequential turbos! :D

I believe the 16X will be a 2 rotor but with larger housings and rotors resulting in 1.6L Renesis Rotary...:D

wow, a 1.6 liter would be great. I have a 2005 6 speed and with a few upgrades and it performs pretty nice, it's comparable to my friends 2008 mustang GT in accelleration now. I could imagine a 1.6 liter can be making 300 hp and that would be real nice.

Yeah...It seems a 1.6 Renesis producing more overall grunt is just what the RX-8 needs...Now, let's hope Mazda can make that a reality along with improved MPG! :D
