  • do Vietnamese accent haha

  • cool suff dude.

  • You have an accent. If you haven't noticed....

  • DO A NEWFIE ACCENT, PLEASE.

  • this video has a better standard american then the standard american video ha

  • hey, you don't have to be that captious, do you?

I mean, accent is such a complicated thing... and since the guy is brazilian, of course it's difficult for him. you, english native speakers, don't have to go and say "I'm blablabla and I don't speak like this" everytime he does a different accent, do you?

  • the way you speak in this video is much closer to standard american english than your actual standard american english video.

  • nice one

  • Is your name Victor or Victory? o.O

  • I am also a student of Linguistics and have been fascinated by accents ever since I can remember. I think you did a very good job with those accents especially since you are not a native speaker. I would take you in any accent.

  • You are hot as hell!! :-D

  • Is your accent Russian, just wondering.

  • I seriously doubt its anything like Germanic despite the location of your most recent video.

  • @TheGiantsbane well ok I guess i was totally off.

  • I don't know what your native language is or the neighborhood you're from, but I might try to guess you as you say you would study others. You seem to speak English in this video with an eastern European accent, possibly Russian, Ukrainian, or one of the southern asian states formally part of the USSR. The name Victor is a good clue but you do sound a little like a Russian but much more like "standard" American English than Yakov Smirnoff.

  • you should stick listening to just one accent tbh because it makes you sound like some schizoid now you mix up words from different accents i can hear some words in british accent some in american accent in one sentence rofl

  • brasileiro!! faz letras na ufmg! legal!

    vc eh foda cara!

  • what accent is it your speaking lol its kinda funny

  • Considering you're not a native speaker, I think your "regular" accent is really the best.

  • Hey.. you did a great job... i'm also fascinated with accents... and well... pity you've got so much criticism... but keep up... remember people who criticize you is because they are blatantly jealous of a non-native being so skillful... keep up the good work mate... the best for you...

  • pretty decent. I wish I could a few of those. :)

  • i went to your school for a month . I studied in the Letras building. I LOVE UFMG

  • "i would 'nt go to bed until I found out where that PERSON CAME FROM"

WAAAAAAAAAAAAY TOO MUCH MY FAIR LADY.

  • lol my friends just got done doing that play

  • @boredfreak5 i think he separated "would not" for emphasis (also notice how he used his hand while he said it)

  • I am from Argentina, and I'm also studying English at university. I think your job is awesome and I'll use it to teach my sts.

Of course your native accent will always show, it is impossible no to, so to the people who criticize I suggest try doing it first!

You did a great job! thanks for sharing it :)

  • "Not go to bed until I found out where they come from."

    Stalker! lol. Just kidding.

  • @michaelimk23

That is very true but I was speaking about pronunciation. not grammar. The pronunciation of native speakers is consistent. The rhythm of speech used by a non-native speaker often gives them away, even if pronunciation itself is flawless.

  • I wish I could find an english guy cuter than Oliver James!!!!!

  • Good effort but it can clearly be heard that you are not a native speaker of English. Your underlying Brazilian Portuguese accent still comes through; although without a lengthier sample, it might be hard to pin down as such because not many people have heard Brazilians speaking English.. There are inconsistencies in pronunciation of words that should have the same vowel sounds. Also the rhythm of your speech is not correct. Even with a perfect accent, this would still give you away. Keep at it!

  • native speakers speak incorrectly all the time.

  • its driving me crazy to know where you actually come from cos you yourself have such a strong accent =)

  • brazil!

    he says it

  • your british accents were poor tbh, theres no such thing as a "standard" british accent.

  • @mirraboden yes, there actually is standard accent, but it isn't BRITISH, it's just called Standard English.

The phonetics, altough, are more likely to the british intonation and phonology.

  • HAHA wow loved the videos. haha

u know i am the same as u, i love accents, live in mexico , american tho.

  • you have a talented tounge!!! wish i could speak british and australian,...try add more accents

  • nice =)

  • This sounds 'standard american' english. much better than your 'standard american' video which sounded terrible.

  • @nigling I was thinking the exact same thing lol. This sounds more standard american than your standard american video.

  • gosh he is amazing!!!

  • I just love this guy!!! Victor, why don't you add some other accents like scottish, irish...

  • Caramba, sua pronuncia eh muito boa. Sou da UFMG tb, mas tou fazendo parte do meu doutorado em Pittsburgh. Abs

  • For someone who's not a native speaker of English, you speak it incredibly well.

  • @mmb101 I agree

  • Yes Russelllock2009, It's a new world wide rule. You need a fucking license to imitate an accent. Good luck explaining why to every actor/comedian/person who wants to in the world.

  • You sound muuuuuch closer to Standard American in this video than you do in the one where you read the script. I think you should re-do all of your videos just speaking in stream of consciousness. In the video, your attempt at Standard American was extremely stilted and wrong with words running together incorrectly and a strange accent that I don't even notice in this video.

  • Hey, I've seen all of your accents, some were close to being really good and others were ok but you definitely have a skill. People on youtube just have very high standards I guess when it comes to people doing other accents so you'll be criticized a lot but don't let it bring you down, you're doing pretty good, brother cheers

  • oh, my, people CAN make some awful comments, can't they? well ... I just wanted to say I think you did great on the British (both Standard and Cockney), of course we have some inaccuracices every now and again, but i do think that you were close enough to fool me, mate! really! Get in touch If you wanna talk accents, yeah? I'm passionate by Scottish, think maybe u can giv me sm insight, yeah? Cheers.

  • well you must brush it up a kinda bit, coz you made me gloat in some portions :D like ''i'' and ''r'' sound. But you sound nice to hear. I speak english too, i'm also from brazil. But jap lineage. Keep it up! bye

  • great job! love it!

  • I agree, this sounds more Standard American than you in the actual video of the Standard American accent.

  • I've seen you're other videos and I must be honest. Quite frankly, it seems all the various English accents you imitated were inaccurate. Nice try, I noticed your efforts in each video. You seem to have, however, a special UNIQUE English accent of your own.

  • introduction is annoying

  • I've seen quite a few of your videos now, and honey, you might be a linguist, but that doesn't mean you are any good at performing the accents. To be honest, quite a few of them are downright insulting to the ear. Every single "English" accent you did sounded like a drunk frat boy trying to sound like he's Australian. You want to impress? Practice more; you need it.

  • This sounds closer to a Standard American accent than the standard american video.

  • lol yeeeeeah i was thinkin the same thing :)

  • All your accents were good. But why dont you post another video which contains STANDARD Indian English and Chinese English.I am sure it will be more interesting.

  • THIS video sounds much more 'standard American' than your standard American video.

  • Hey:) Your accents are great, but I have to admit that someone who wrote that your English is better on this recording than on Standard English was right. Maybe you could do it one more time. The rest is really impressing!:)

  • This is a great job! I study linguistics too, so I appreciate it very much!

  • Here, you sound like you have a curious mix between a General American accent with hints of a Dutch accent! Mainly American though.

  • try doing an NZ accent

  • I really really really love your accent videos, they are so cool! Maybe some of them could use a little work, but I think your indian one is especially good. Could you do one of an arabic accent?

  • This is the best accent of all of your videos. Genuinely sounds more generically American than your attempt at standard American does! Maybe you just need to play it down a little.

  • you speak better English in this video than you do in your Standard English video.

  • yu syud du da pilipino aksent tu ah!

  • You are so gorgeous! And you're amazing at all of those accents, great job! Where are you from?

  • Yeah They're all so fabulous. You're studying linguistics ? Well, I'd love to talk to you really much since I'm planning to minor linguistics and I'm so into it. I mean ACCENTS , just like you !

  • haha your vids are awesome dude!! Great job with all the accents they're all pretty close... Great job for a mineiro brasileiro!! = )

  • Man... you are brazilian, no matter how hard u try, u won't ever get a real accent but brazilian accent.

y don[t u try doing brazilian speaking english??

  • Where is your natural accent from?

  • Your vids are really hit or miss.

  • i notice a lot of you 'accent' videos dont allow responses. you afraid of the competition? prince charles english teacher...

  • your real accent sounds kinda arab :)

  • do a chinese one! xDDD

  • Yes do a Chinese too! XD

  • Hey !! Why dont try Malaysian accent I LUV it !!!

  • what accent? im frm malaysia and can speak eng... no accent at all^^

  • Hmmm .. i dont know how to say it ... but in my college ...once i hear them speaking, i can tell straightaway that they r from malaysia ^^

  • i think it depends on where they learned english

but im also not very sure about that...

  • what is your real accent? mine is long island

you should do new york, too.

  • you're like that man from Shaw´s Pygmalion... Very interesting... Saludos de México

  • hey, man, Add arabic and Russian accent! I can help with Russian accent :)

  • Sounds good...looking forward to watching your vidios.

  • It is very interesting what you are doing... Now I realise american its hard to understand for me.. I get better the australian and british ones... what a problem eh!!.. I study linguistics too In peru..

  • Yeah, what's your natural accent? It sounds interesting too. Really clean. If that makes any sense...

  • what kind of accent is that that you speak natively? where did you grow up?

  • Hi there, I'm studying linguistics (English and Spanish) as well and it's amazing how good you are in imitating the different accents! I might be able to do this in German but there's now way I'd be able to do all these English accents!!

  • This intro is done in an American accent, but from his other videos I think he is actually an Australian who moved to Brazil.

  • interesting

  • everything is perfect but we would like to listen spanish accent from you.

  • Mate...

    We speak portuguese in Brazil...

  • good job

  • Voce eh muito bom. Quando te ouvi falando com sotaque de indiano fiquei com vontade de te dar um murro na cara!!!

    Well done!!!

  • you should try the singapore accent too.

  • u kinda sound lyk a van damme accent im thinkin austria or around there

  • i always thought accents were amazing too!!:D!!

  • great idea)))

  • Você é brasileiro? De Minas? You´re schockingly good and convincing in all those accents! Parabéns.

  • Are you Italian?

  • hes obviously american

  • he's brazilian

  • no hes philipeano

  • it says on his page that he's from brazil...

  • i think you're so freaking cute! =)

  • Agree!

  • You need to say 'ah-stral-yin' not 'aus-tral-ee-an' and we really don't pronounce our r's very well at all... e.g. water = "wor-ta" instead of "wor-terrr". And Australia itself is more like "ah-stral-ya" not "aus-stray-lee-a". We're a bit lazy like that.

  • Great idea! I love language/linguistics, but it is difficult to study them (especially specific accents) when one is not in the location. Please make more!

  • itialian?

  • no canadaic accent???

  • Well good luck. I think it's great that you are interested in different accents. The one you need the most work on is definitely the redneck one. Keep it up.

    =]

  • Question!

    Where are you originally from?

  • thank you, it was helpful (Im also studying lingvistic now)

  • muito bom cara, você me ajudou muito com esse sotaque indiano (eu precisava ser intérprete de uma indiana mas estava morrendo de medo de não entender nada do inglês dela) e esse seu vídeo foi uma mão na roda, valew

    abração

    Evandro Marques

    (também lingüista-Unicamp)

  • maybe, just maybe you should try Brazilian and Hispanic.

  • yes, baby, whatever you say I do.....where are you from? I cant identify your accent :S.....but anyways, your hands are just gorgeous and when you wave goodbye I feel a little closer to heaven just from seeing how beautiful you are

  • hahaha......ok

    psst...awkward

  • What screwed up accent is that supposed to be?

  • Hi, Victor!

    I've just subscribed!

    I'm studying ENglish Philology!!

    Best wishes from Spain

    R

  • who's Phil?

  • Yeah, your introduction is more American-sounding than your American sample. I think its because you are more natural, spontaneous, which is key to the smooth sound of America. Good job! Way better than I could do!

  • Try Gothenburgian! :D

  • Your accents are fantastic and I love your clips.

  • Well, I watched them all, and you sounded pretty good with the Indian and the Aussie. The American, redneck, british and cockney still had an australian accent mixed in there. Your introduction sounds more American than the American sample. Where are you actually from?

  • american, british, cockney hahahah, australian god dammit i laffed my bollox off at that line

  • loada bollocks

  • you are really amazing!! i envy you because your capable of doing that....

  • he's brazilian ;)

  • and kinda cute =D

  • now how about doing a Singaporean accent?

  • I cant place your accent but you sure sound like some one from Northen US or Canada.. OR perhaps CA / WA/ OR..

N amazing Aussie english.. i wonder why i still hitch understanding them!!

N BTW Indian pronounciation was quite SOUTH INDIAN.. majority of indians in urban areas.. speak quite neutral english.. may be if u can tune some indian news channels u'll get some idea... n sorry if i have caused some level of insomnia with that little piece of information!!

  • It's actually true that when you try to read something with an accent it always sounds weird whereas when you speak naturally, well, then it's natural I guess.

  • hey! I recognize this accent, lol

    u sound so well

    where did u learn.....

    wish I was u

  • Thank you buddy. I really like your videos about accents

  • Yeah you do sound like an American. I'm not from US so I cant say for sure but it sounds a lot like them. Good work mate

  • you sound pretty American in this video rather than when you were trying to do an American accent, aside from a few tiny things that are barely noticable

  • I share you interests.

  • Great videos!!! Thanks !

  • This sounds more American than your American accent video :/

  • Agreed.

  • you know... now that I listen to this again... its actually really good.

  • Very nice videos, btw, you live in Brazil Come on show your Brazilian Accent video!

    and

    What's your graduation?

  • This is better than your "Standard American" video. "In-dyan" might be better as "In-dee-un". "Little" should have a softer "i", and not a long "e" sound. While it's not totally convincing, it is good.

  • im looin 4ward to litsening asia enlgish sounds!! haha i enjoy watchin ur video! those r so funny hahalol

  • I'm really enjoying your videos, you do make some mistakes but they are interesting. I think we'd all make mistakes and lapse into distorted accents if we continuously read the same thing in an accent that is not our own.

Out of curiosity, what is your native language?

  • I'm also facinated by the different English accents, and since i've never found such comparison before I appriciate your work.

  • I've seen now all the videos. It was a nice experiment even if you weren't very close to any accent. What about Scottish, Irish and Canadian? You could have sucked also at those ones

  • to be honest, while you do sound like you could be from somewhere else, I think that this is a better american accent than when you were actually trying, and I'm american.

  • interesting. how about trying a singaporean accent?

  • you should make a mexican accent.....:)

  • What about Canadian accents? :P

  • why don't you imitate people from hong kong?

  • hey mate, well done! I like it really much. I am czech but i live in England and talk to some americans and they sound exactly like you on this record! good job, buddy

  • All of the accents sound really good ACCEPT for the American ones. Not so good <:(

  • *cough*"Except"*cough*

  • ooh, and i put it in bold too... :P

  • I guess you mean 'except'

  • Cara, para um brasileiro, esses sotaques estão MUITO bons! Só precisa trabalhar mais no cockney... Eu moro em Londres e esse foi o único sotaque que não ficou muito bom... Parabéns!

  • Where do you come from? What is that accent you have? I don't think I've ever heard one like that.

  • I think its very interesting that you're doing this. It's a fantasic ideas and I'm looking forward to watching your other videos.Great concept.

  • You should pay more attention on stress. Occasionally you locate the stress on a wrong syllable.

  • Well, linguists don't do performance. We linguists are not translators either. We analyze languages.

  • LOL. the accents are not very accurate, but nice try though!

  • Hey man, congratulations for the great videos, specialy de Indian one . I couldn't believe when you said you are Brazilian, your english accent is perfect. If you have a chance, record some accents from Brazil: bahiano, gaucho, carioca...the Brazilians will enjoy it.

  • hey, try to do english with bulgarian accent!

  • Hey, Victor, I love accents as well. I'm studying linguistics, English Linguistics, actually. Where're are you from? It would be fun to discuss these things.

  • Victor you are great ! My sister and I can't wait for more.... We were stunned with your Indian accent. We think it's the best one so far. Anyway, we're Polish and can't wait for you to imitate our accent. Hugs and Kisses !!! Ilona & Gabriela

  • where are you from?

  • Well, with your being a linguist, I would expect you to know that it's "This is I"... not "This is me."

  • Linguists are descriptive not prescriptive. They do not care if people say, ain't, or she do; they just describe languages. And the proper term is linguistician, since linguist is someone who speaks a lot languages, and linguisticians do not. Try to read before prescribing rules of grammar.

  • Acutally, I suggest you get your terminology correct. Linguists are people who study languages (doesn't matter how many languages they speak), and a polygot is one who speaks many languages.

  • And I suggest that you get your terminolgy correct too, since Linguistician is the correct term, ok?

    Try to read some more.

  • You're an idiot. Look it up 'linguistician' and it will say something along the lines of 'linguist.' Again: A LINGUIST is one who just studies languages and can speak one, two, or sixteen; it doesn't matter. A POLYGOT is the proper term for one who speaks many languages, regardless of whether he or she studies them in a field. 'Linguistician' pretty much means the same thing as 'linguist,' but 'linguist' is the proper term.

  • Try to read some Chomsky, Boas, Fillmore, Bloomfield instead of reading Parry Hotter!

  • That is irrelevant. The reading of those works proves nothing in this argument. All I suggest that you try to read is a few entries of the dictionary, because your terminology is improper.

  • just perfect ... respect
