Occasionaly my partners rav4 d4d reves to about 3000rpm and then just refuses to accelerate any more, changing gear or lifting off the throttle cures it 90% of the time. It feels like the thing has come off boost or just wont produce enough boost to accelerate. could the control mechanisum for this be causing the problem.
@markbarry1977 i hope you have solved the problem by now but it sounds to me that your fuel pump is gone.the engine cant rev any higher than 3,000rpm because it is starved of fuel.hope this helps

with vn, the turbine speeds up full, all the time. so it has more wear against the running time
