Hey, you're cute! I'm in the beginning stages of learning japanese so I understood probably only 5% of this. Well, I'll get back to reading books now!

I agree with tokenblackguy3032 's post several pages back. She picked up on a lot of Japan's media mannerisms, and a lot of talk-show type and horribly exaggerated shows. It's really scary to watch and it draws you in it's clutches to make you keep watching. -Shudder.- x_X
omg... when you laugh, i laugh... AND I DON'T HAVE A CLUE OF WHAT YOU ARE SAYING XD but anyways.. did you say that ayumi hamasaki should die? WHYYY i love her :D tho i'm not so shure of what you said because i can't speak japanese
Aloha! I watched your videos. Your Japanese is so good! I was surprised about it. I'm living in the US over 5 years, but my English is pre bad. I'll watch rest of your videos later.
When I watched your video first,I was really touched as one of Japanese. There is a lot of Japanese who learn English. But I have never seen American who wanna learn Japanese.I'm praying you to improve Japanese skill more and more.
I love japanes & anime.... maybe a little too much ^^ did i get it right that you said you don´t like anime? then what got you into learning japanes soo fluently? im just curious is all
P.S. zanat0s, you are just jelious -_- soo im an american wannabe for knowing english or do i wanna be a brit? an irish or perhaps scothis or maybe even australian? how does it make her a wannabe for knowing the language?!?!
That's particularly because they're either not aware, not sure, or the most likely conclusion is that they come from a country that basic behavioral psychology will define as collectivism.
On that note I think Applemilk could learn a very important aspect of Japanese culture: the culture of modesty. I have met Japanese people whose English is perfect (pronunciation and all), and yet if you ask them "do you speak English" they'll probably tell you "my English is not very good." I've never met a Japanese person who said they were fluent (even if they were). Apple is very good and has a high level of Japanese but I don't think (and I could be wrong) she's fluent.
I think you're commenting on my criticisms of her Japanese here and I can completely understand where you're coming from. The only reason I decided to say anything at all is the fact that she insists on telling people in many videos that she is FLUENT. As I said in another comment on another video, a fluent person would know the word for driver's license (unten menkyou) and other words that she didn't seem to know.
Not exactly true, because it also depends on the culture and its uses for it. My mother speaks Spanish fluently (she was born and raised in Panama for one thing) and often times she won't known certain Spanish words that some other person will say. It also depends on which dialect of Japanese she's learning.
unten menkyou is the same in every dialect I've encountered. The only one that I think would have a possibility of being different would be Okinawa which I can tell you by hearing her she isn't learning.
I might have made a video like this, when I was 12. *GIGGLE* how many times did you rehearse it beforehand? *GIGGLE* and what's with your voice, did you eat chalk or something? That's what paedophiles do you know.
hoodie w/lace = a completely impractical & ugly thing that makes you look like an extra on a production of "the crucible". 5 years? damn. from my experience learning languages japanese (was my 4th) and watching others learn i can see the change after a year or two of living there or
CONSTANT exposure to japanese mannerisms, body language, and accent through some kind of media. But for 5 years and not living there for a substantial amount of time, she must be a HUGE japanophile with the amount of media she would have to take in to pick up all that. Im a cultural anthro major but if someone here is linguistic anthro please correct me =p
Next "bideo burogu ga tsukuritai" should be "...wo tsukuritai." Finally, what is "beta" in the parentheses? Are you trying to say your Japanese is cliche?
I am a Japanese teacher. Wo and Ni are interchangeable with the ~tai form of the verb.
Her Japanese is amazing. I don't believe she picked it up just with lyrics and manga. I am pretty sure she has lived in Japan for a fairly long time. The Japanese is too natural.
I wasn't talking about ni, I was talking about ga. Believe me, in my studies in Japan I was scolded by my teacher for saying "ga ~tai". It sort of sticks with me. Also, to Apple, it seems some of my comments have been deleted. Is there a reason?
Yes, with verbs of motion you need to use ni or e.
Yes, wo is more natural. However, ga is also O.K., but the nuance is slightly different. It is contrastive. FYI you can also use wa in a negative sentence. Then ga in the answer as it is contrastive. i.e.
ocha wa nomitaku arimasen.
omizu ga nomitai desu.
Please check with a Japanese grammar handbook. Jya ne!
I'm quite aware that ni/he are used for designating location, going to, etc. but this wasn't my point. My point was ga. Also, are you teaching your students things like "nomitaku arimasen?" Technically it's correct but even in the most formal situations in Japan the natural way of speaking is "nomitakunai desu." (actually ~tai shouldn't really be used in very formal situations and is considered sort of rude in front of superiors). You should teach your students how to sound natural.
Yes, I teach both the formal and informal forms. Yes, I teach them that ~tai should not be used with superiors.
By the way, formal forms are used a lot in writing and in news broadcasts and the such. They are important to know. I am not just teaching my students to speak, but also to understand the written and formal Japanese found in these types of materials.
The problem with e-mail is that what is not said is then seized upon as an omission. Oh well, the nature of the beast.
Point taken about literary/news/etc. But I don't think ~taku arimasen should be taught as the primary. It's easy to understand ~taku arimasen on your own if you've been taught ~takunai desu as anybody at that level knows nai=arimasen (dict form). But I understand where you're coming from.
I also think her Japanese is very good, especially if she learned by songs as she said (which I'm doubtful of). However, she insists on telling her viewers on a regular basis that she is FLUENT so she should be held to the most magnifying microscope. I've met Japanese people who were absolutely perfect in their English but they never say there are fluent and are usually extremely modest (something Apple should learn about the culture). Honna ne (Awa-ben).
Yes, I agree. Unless she is a genius, which is possible, she has lived in Japan. The mannerisms, body language etc. had to be learned while in the country. You don't pick that up from song lyrics. Yes, she does need to learn to be modest, but if she makes mistakes, so what. We should encourage people to speak languages without being self-conscious. Fear of making mistakes is one of the biggest barriers to learning to speak a language. Just let er rip! Good luck with your studies. Ganbatte!
Another thing, how do you figure that wo and ni are "interchangeable?" Example: "Ore wa nihon ni ikitai nen" and "Ore wa nihon wo ikitai nen." There are separate cases where ni ~tai and wo ~tai can be used for there specific functions but they aren't "interchangeable."
Dude, stop pretending your some amazing Japanese God that knows everything about Japanese and can criticize every little thing like your word is law. And for your information, I've also learned that you can use ga with the ~tai form and that nomitaku arimasen is perfectly acceptable while formal. Get off your high horse and take that stick out of your ass, while you're at it.
I don't believe I know everything about Japanese or that I'm "fluent." Apple was the one who said she was fluent which was the whole reason I commented in the first place. If she didn't make a point to emphasize that in her vids I would have just ignored the mistakes. I said ~ku arimasen was technically correct but I never heard it used in a real situation. Cheers.
I agree she should've used modesty and not insisted on her fluency, but just don't go claiming like you're 100% sure that certain things are wrong unless you think you're fluent as well. You sound just as arrogant as she does.
Guys guys listen up. I am the same as her. I am a white guy who speaks fluent Japanese and I studied it all by myself from music and TV. you can aim me at Jabx82
Are you by any chance sick from cancer and about to die ? I didn`t get 97 % from what you've said ( the 3% are from anime and hentai :P ) But the whole video was rather depressing for me

Apple is very good and has a high level of Japanese but I don't think (and I could be wrong) she's fluent.

well said dude....humility is but a lost virtue...
yigalite 4 years ago
I think you're commenting on my criticisms of her Japanese here and I can completely understand where you're coming from. The only reason I decided to say anything at all is the fact that she insists on telling people in many videos that she is FLUENT. As I said in another comment on another video, a fluent person would know the word for driver's license (unten menkyou) and other words that she didn't seem to know.
hoteinokodomo 4 years ago
Not exactly true, because it also depends on the culture and its uses for it. My mother speaks Spanish fluently (she was born and raised in Panama for one thing) and often times she won't known certain Spanish words that some other person will say. It also depends on which dialect of Japanese she's learning.
shedano 4 years ago
unten menkyou is the same in every dialect I've encountered. The only one that I think would have a possibility of being different would be Okinawa which I can tell you by hearing her she isn't learning.

Your Japanese's perfect & cute! I guarantee!

5 years? damn. from my experience learning languages japanese (was my 4th) and watching others learn i can see the change after a year or two of living there or
tokenblackguy3032 4 years ago
CONSTANT exposure to japanese mannerisms, body language, and accent through some kind of media. But for 5 years and not living there for a substantial amount of time, she must be a HUGE japanophile with the amount of media she would have to take in to pick up all that. Im a cultural anthro major but if someone here is linguistic anthro please correct me =p
tokenblackguy3032 4 years ago
Whoa, is that a hoodie with lace? Dang, that's a great marketing plan.

Next "bideo burogu ga tsukuritai" should be "...wo tsukuritai." Finally, what is "beta" in the parentheses? Are you trying to say your Japanese is cliche?
hoteinokodomo 4 years ago
I am a Japanese teacher. Wo and Ni are interchangeable with the ~tai form of the verb.
Her Japanese is amazing. I don't believe she picked it up just with lyrics and manga. I am pretty sure she has lived in Japan for a fairly long time. The Japanese is too natural.
Timkun1 4 years ago
I wasn't talking about ni, I was talking about ga. Believe me, in my studies in Japan I was scolded by my teacher for saying "ga ~tai". It sort of sticks with me. Also, to Apple, it seems some of my comments have been deleted. Is there a reason?
hoteinokodomo 4 years ago
Yes, with verbs of motion you need to use ni or e.
Yes, wo is more natural. However, ga is also O.K., but the nuance is slightly different. It is contrastive. FYI you can also use wa in a negative sentence. Then ga in the answer as it is contrastive. i.e.
ocha wa nomitaku arimasen.
omizu ga nomitai desu.
Please check with a Japanese grammar handbook. Jya ne!
Timkun1 4 years ago
I'm quite aware that ni/he are used for designating location, going to, etc. but this wasn't my point. My point was ga. Also, are you teaching your students things like "nomitaku arimasen?" Technically it's correct but even in the most formal situations in Japan the natural way of speaking is "nomitakunai desu." (actually ~tai shouldn't really be used in very formal situations and is considered sort of rude in front of superiors). You should teach your students how to sound natural.
hoteinokodomo 4 years ago
Yes, I teach both the formal and informal forms. Yes, I teach them that ~tai should not be used with superiors.
By the way, formal forms are used a lot in writing and in news broadcasts and the such. They are important to know. I am not just teaching my students to speak, but also to understand the written and formal Japanese found in these types of materials.
The problem with e-mail is that what is not said is then seized upon as an omission. Oh well, the nature of the beast.
Timkun1 4 years ago
Point taken about literary/news/etc. But I don't think ~taku arimasen should be taught as the primary. It's easy to understand ~taku arimasen on your own if you've been taught ~takunai desu as anybody at that level knows nai=arimasen (dict form). But I understand where you're coming from.
hoteinokodomo 4 years ago
I also think her Japanese is very good, especially if she learned by songs as she said (which I'm doubtful of). However, she insists on telling her viewers on a regular basis that she is FLUENT so she should be held to the most magnifying microscope. I've met Japanese people who were absolutely perfect in their English but they never say there are fluent and are usually extremely modest (something Apple should learn about the culture). Honna ne (Awa-ben).
hoteinokodomo 4 years ago
Yes, I agree. Unless she is a genius, which is possible, she has lived in Japan. The mannerisms, body language etc. had to be learned while in the country. You don't pick that up from song lyrics. Yes, she does need to learn to be modest, but if she makes mistakes, so what. We should encourage people to speak languages without being self-conscious. Fear of making mistakes is one of the biggest barriers to learning to speak a language. Just let er rip! Good luck with your studies. Ganbatte!
Timkun1 4 years ago
Another thing, how do you figure that wo and ni are "interchangeable?" Example: "Ore wa nihon ni ikitai nen" and "Ore wa nihon wo ikitai nen." There are separate cases where ni ~tai and wo ~tai can be used for there specific functions but they aren't "interchangeable."
hoteinokodomo 4 years ago
ga ~tai is always incorrect as far as I can think. The closest thing to ga ~tai would be ~te hoshii.

hoteinokodomo 4 years ago
Dude, stop pretending your some amazing Japanese God that knows everything about Japanese and can criticize every little thing like your word is law. And for your information, I've also learned that you can use ga with the ~tai form and that nomitaku arimasen is perfectly acceptable while formal. Get off your high horse and take that stick out of your ass, while you're at it.
kupoporo 4 years ago
I don't believe I know everything about Japanese or that I'm "fluent." Apple was the one who said she was fluent which was the whole reason I commented in the first place. If she didn't make a point to emphasize that in her vids I would have just ignored the mistakes. I said ~ku arimasen was technically correct but I never heard it used in a real situation. Cheers.
hoteinokodomo 4 years ago
I agree she should've used modesty and not insisted on her fluency, but just don't go claiming like you're 100% sure that certain things are wrong unless you think you're fluent as well. You sound just as arrogant as she does.
