The drum definition (mostly the kick drum definition) we're used to in metal wouldn't even be possible to achieve (well, it actually is possible to achieve, but you have to struggle a lot trying to use mics as triggers, which is the same principle as using actual triggers) without them. Drummers are not machine guns. Even the best ones use triggers.

hey man i just bought the dm5 module and triggers for tmy bass drums (i hav the exact same kit as you). but i noticed that the snare and kick inputs are different in snsitivity. i havent tried out the triggers on my kit yet, so do i have to adjust anything sensitivitywise? :D thanks

hey mate, in this you said you were still experimenting with heads, try out evens EC2 for your toms, i have them on mine, nice warm and full body tom sound and easy to get a brutal sound out, i play sorta tech/thrash sorta stuff and im loving the evans EMAD for my bass (altho im about to buy triggers so i duno if thatll work for me, apparently triggers dont fit with an emad)

@129jasaxos think of a microphone, and how it picks up the noise and produces it through the speakers. triggers pick up the vibration of the drum being hit and produce a sound through a drum module (aka trigger brain) which then comes through the PA. its good for going at high speeds because the sound doesn't get all muddy.

hey man, i have a question about triggers, do you have to muffle the drums a lot to get them to work properly or it doesnt matter? i ask because ive sen guys that fill all their drums with blankets and stuff but id like to combine the triggers with the acoustic sound of the kit

@wolfheart1982 honestly it depends. a lot of people only do that so you cannot hear the THUD of the bass drum and only the tick of the trigger... which I honestly think is GAYTARDED. It's just a matter of opinion. I prefer to have a little bit of thud in my bass drums just in case the triggers go out in a live situation, that way bass drums are still some what audible.
