I'm a huge fan of breakdowns, but I find the best ones come from bands you wouldn't expect them from or that aren't the heaviest. Protest the Hero-Turn Soonest to The Sea. HORSE the band-Cutsman and Chiodos-The Words Best Friend Become Redefined are some of my all time favorites, although STYG, Black My Heart, IBWT and Guns Up! always work too.

@DarianHarman. I have some musical training myself and i find this genre a little more interesting than "chewing gum". Some of the rythms and beats that are played really take some music knowledge to comprehend completely. Stuff like dotted eighth sixteenths' and short rests in wierd places. I think its enjoyable to listen to, and if you dont like it thats totaly cool, you can go back to Bach and Shostakovich. :)

Once I heard the same thing that was going on back in 1999, (lack of musicality, lack of originality, lack of the ability to create an idea that is little more than chewing gum for the musical mind), I lost interest. The genre hasn't evolved since then, and neither have the people who are suckered by it. Don't get butt-hurt just because I'm objectively commenting on drivel.
