Audi Quattro and Lancia 037 Snow Dance

Maybe the Quattro is better than the 037 but Lancia wins outright with all it's other quality cars.

The reason the 037 looks alive is that it is RWD, the Quattro was the first 4wd/awd car in the WRC. The pre-cursor's to the famed Group B era (they were both technically Group B spec, but the silliness didn't get into full speed until a year or two later)

The lancias look like they're alive. IMO, they're the better car. Sure the Audis are technically faster and more reliable but they're boring, cold, clinical, understeer-ey things. I want soul and passion.

At the time Audi had more competitive car, especial at snow, because of awd and great power, but it had bad steering because of heavy engine at the front so on twisty asphalt roads Lancia 037 that drove like a little, light, nervous bee was better. Year later Lancia had a more competitive car with Delta S4 that was better than quattro in all ways. So I think that all in all quattro is a great car but Lancias and Lancia Rally Team were the best.

germans are simply very teutonic and straightforward. no flashiness, no fluff.. no emotion but technology is great. very simple and straightforward.. very nice. all tech and brains. good stuff. performance first.

I agree with all your statements except "simple and straight foward". Working on German cars today is very hard because the Germans over-engineer everything which in most cases is not needed...

I drive a VW Passat which is a mix of Audi and VW and I work on it myself...

yeah 4 wheel drive is great for grip and stuff. but audis are german blandness at its worst. dont get me wrong i have driven several. bank vault build quality and they do everything right. but they have no soul. lancia on the other hand are awesome. remember that the 037 was a stopgap model that was used while they developed their own 4 wheel drive system. which upon release again elevated them to the top where they belong. wouldnt mind an rs6 avant though to do the shopping though.

All cars have soul of one sort or another. The Quattro is a legend; you can't be a legend without soul. It's just that there is a big difference in spirit between a Audi and an Lancia, or a Volvo or an R5. They all are beautiful.
