  • Wow r they twins? :-)

  • @minecraftstarful No, they were born two years apart in 1937 and 1939, Phil on the left is the younger, and Don the older, it will be Dons 75th birthday tomorrow February 1st.

  • Wow are they twins ??? :-)

  • i actually like this version considering it was a tv performance it was good the original version is great :)

  • Dammit. Wish whoever shot this had a good Camera grrr!!!

  • In 1958 when this song came out it was banned from air play on numerous radio stations around the country for being pornographic. A girl sleeping with her boyfriend.. dumb but true

  • Thanks! Love to watch historical music videos. Blog on the Everlys! Wes and Christine

  • Soy mexicano, creanme que aca en mexico tambien nos gusta la buena musica, tengo 14 años por cierto.

  • hey I want to see wich litle Susi did not wake up when she heard that song. Hello from Germany.

  • Such innocence. No more.

  • Sometimes my dad comes and wakes me up by singing this song

  • from when I was a kid, I loved their songs already! I guess I'm still a kid... haha

  • Awesome thts all i can say ;)

  • Whats with the Big Band version???

  • THOSE SHITTY HORNS RUINED EVERYTHING! AWFUL JUST AWFUL!

  • LOVE the EB, but HATE the corny horn string arrangement !

  • They are better here, maybe becaused the are younger's

  • My Dad had this on 4-track :)

  • my dad used to sing this to me when I was little. im 19. and i love this song.

  • This is one of the best songs of 1950s' generations!

  • This is practically one of my favorite oldies songs and I'm only 13! lol.

  • @sabrinafan1011 Sweet I am NOT THE ONLY YOUNG ONE!

  • "What Ya Guna Tell Our Friends, When They Say Ooh-La -La! Love it! Thx. Megasuggs!

  • Can't get enough of the Bros, but completely agree with the comment on the "arrangement". That was live TV for you back in the day...Got a chance to meet Phil Everly a few years ago...chatted about the guitar tuning, and still get a thrill looking at the picture of me with him....

  • I don't like the trumpets on this version... but it's such a GREAT SONG!!!! And they were CUTE! (L)

  • wake up little suzie we guta get HOME!! lovely music !! and i am 22 i LOVE IT!

  • Qué arreglo más extraño... nunca había escuchado esta versión... no me encanta...

  • Never heard this version before, but the person responsible for adding the idiotic horn section and sax arrangement to this American classic should be taken to a place outside of town and summarily shot.

  • @GereDJ I agree

  • @GereDJ That's a similar way of saying something Garfield The Cat says sometimes. He says sometimes, "People who do that should be drug out into the street and shot".

  • @GereDJ Big Lol..made my day !

  • Fantástico.

  • To Pandablue13...that's a sweet story.

  • when my sister was little my mom would sing this song to her, because her name is Susan, she thought the song was about her lol

  • Does anyone know the date and location of this performance???

  • going by earlier comments 1958

  • It is definately from the ed sullivan show. From my research I derive that it is from August 4, 1957

  • Always thought this was a rather jolly little tune until I started paying attention to the words.

  • lol same. i thought they was the most innocent band in history...

  • The Arranger, some fellow born in 1919, thinks the cornball horns will "sell it" to the adults in front of the TV. But the guy they hired "wasn't so hot". I want to smack him on the forehead til his toupee falls off. Ok sorry, he's just doing his job. - I just want to have him sit this one out and let Chet Atkins do the arrangement. As usual for this period the brothers sang perfectly & played in that way that foreshadowed modern rock.

  • HeHe, you are SO RIGHT!

  • Most intelligent musical comment ever...

  • aww thats my nameypoo! I love the song<33

  • The band arrangement sure sounds different, but I love it! It's a nice spin off to the original song.

  • my daddy use ti wake me up with this song....but my name is Stacey....love it

  • I agree about the horns. I love the sound of horns but their sound here is totally inappropriate. Rock 'n' Roll or any such-related music was not widely accepted back then and stuff like that just happened as a matter of course. Also, their sound was so radical for the time. The musical director of the show probably thought that adding horns would somehow relate their sound to the more traditional forms of music that were popular back then and appealed to the majority of the viewing audience.

  • nice song.. I like Paul Simon's version..

  • I wish they kept the horns out. I like the song as it was recorded originally.

  • That was the TV show's orchestra. Unfortunately that was done a lot in those days to rock acts when they appeared on TV shows. The TV show was used to big band style singers who would not have clashed so much with the orchestra. Check out the Everlys on the alma Cogan Show for a clip of them sounding like they should.

  • I know. In modern times, David Letterman's band does this sort of thing to guests, too.

  • Comment removed

  • two brothers always make a tight band

  • oasis?

  • Muito massa!

  • Thanks for posting this its one of my most liked songs of all time.

  • Ohhhhhh la la la wake up little susie

  • Clearly they were required to 'clean it up' for the tv audience... the dropped 'naughty' verse, the syrupy horn section... and the tempo is slowed down to make it more conventional... less frantic and raucous, so as not to get slammed as rock & rollers making 'devil music' as was happening to others. Elvis Presley for instance. The Everly Bros records were a big influence on me in my childhood. I am just as big a fan still today. It was GREAT to see this unique performance. Thanks for posting it

  • I agree with your comments although my impression is that the musical accompaniment was dictated by the house band/orchestra that played on the specific TV show. Almost all rock acts had this occur to them in the 50's and 60's on TV. For a really great live TV performance, check out the Brother's 1961 appearance on The Alma Cogan Show in the UK with their backup being the Crickets. Amazing!

  • I thought there was another verse.

  • Yes you are right, "the movie wasn't so hot, it didn't have much of a plot, we fell asleep, our goose is cooked, our reputation is shot."

  • I thought there was another verse.

  • great - just what I was looking for and I will be here again

  • i will be here again too!

    these boys are fantastic

i think these two boys will be famous one day,and if you dont agree,i will have the last laugh on you

    keep it up boys!!

  • I recall seeing this when I was a kid on our Philco B/W TV set!! Thanks for renewing a special memory.

  • Great song, but god that TV orchestra accompaniment takes away from their sound. The Everlys were so much better when they were permitted to play their music as they made it. Check out their appearances on the Alma Cogan Show live on YouTube and you'll see what I mean.

  • Yes I totaly agree with you, on the Alma Cogan Show the are backed by the Crickets, How much better could it get? I have seen them live at least 15 times, They are the best.

  • Agreed. The Crickets kept the sound cleaner and more like their records. Really great. This is a cool clip though either way. Thanks!

  • what exactly do i look for, tried the alma cogan show, no dice,

  • In your YouTube search type in:

    everly alma cogan

Both clips show in the search results

  • That riff in Open G...Killer even to this day

  • Boston banned everything back then, they even banned "I saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus!"

  • from which year is this??

  • About 1958 I think.

  • Did you see how fat Don got. He is like twice the size here.

  • wow Don was so skinny he could use a condom as a sleeping bag!

  • LOL

  • They are deleted because these are copyrighted videos... People are not deleting them to be "mean"... lol

  • a tually if it's over 50 years old its okay

  • That's right.

  • Well, even if it is a poor copy they look and sound. pretty cute

  • i agree

  • @MikeHudson65 Yes, when exactly did they perform on the Moon? Actually the video quality of Neil Armstrong is better.

  • someone had a better copy i think his name was redhaio.i'm really pissed off theykeep deleting a lot oif great Everlyt vids, there used to be like a whole bunch of them!

  • is this a copy of a copy?

  • Yes i'm afraid the picture quality is poor, but it is 50 year old film, the best I coud do.

  • i can;t believe they got fat,especially Don!LOL
