If you mean when he was fighting Xiphos, he was using the orge shield avaliable from the traveling merchenant who appears near the end of the campaign.

I have now played Payback Mode, and you CAN get the Hero's Shield the same way you did before, in a Lucky Bag in the Deathbringer's Citadel. Also, Dragonlord's Doom is useless even if you get 90 or more on everything.

@Thenso37 Yeah, it saves a lot of time. On the flipside, she doesn't get Buff or Oomph, which would make things harder if I wasn't doing payback mode.

Dragon Quest 8 was probably my favorite PS2 game so it might be hard for me to get into this particular game but I'll give it a shot. Anyways great series Datai.
