That's the opening riff from Jeff Beck's 'Rice Pudding', one of the most recognizable songs from his second album 'Beck-Ola' (1969) with the Jeff Beck Group. Throughout 1970 Page used it occasionally as an prelude to Heartbreaker and, to my knowledge, at least once for Whole Lotta Love*.
*You can give the latter a listen if you search for the "The Nobs - You Need It Baby MSG 1970"
they were already huge at this time..but i would have loved to have been there!!! wish Page would get off his duff and release more of the old concerts...i've heard so many bootlegs and half of them are damn good..i'm sure their concert vault has alot of good material
@custardpie40 I was wishing more that Plant would get off his ass and tour with Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham. But yea, I am sure that Page has some really, really great recordings both video and audio stored somewhere. I wonder what is going to happen to all of those goodies if he should die any time soon? God knows I pray that it doesn't happen, but just wondering?
it was probably something Page or Beck played in the Yardbird days. Jeff Beck later used the riff in the song " Rice Pudding" ..Either way I like the way Jimmy plays the riff alot more
well even if they are part jewish which I have never heard before(and I'm not going to even bother to look up because it's not important), they definately weren't in it just for the money like those pathetic idiots in makeup KISS. Go read a KISS comic book haha so lame..
well I lied lol. I ended up looking it up out of curiosity and I didn't find anywhere on google that said Page was Jewish and I didn't even bother to look up Plant because I was 90% sure you were just talking out of your ass zoznack...not that it matters if he is jewish or not..I just wanted to confirm your an idiot lol good day sir.
lol Why does it matter, they are NOTHING like KISS regardless..kiss are just the stereotypical jews only in it to sell a product with little musical talent( in comparison to Zep). Zeppelin were all about the MUSIC, not dollars and cents.Let me guess Bonham's jewish too?lmao, I looked up Page out of curiosity and couldn't find ANYTHING. Either way it doesn't change my opinion of them AT ALL. Im just 99% sure he's not. Please show me the facts, I would love for you to prove me wrong.

Why pick on "Jews"? I'm sure that there are many bands who are "in it for the money" who are not "Jews", but then again, why would you think Kiss only got into music for the money? I'm sure they loved playing as much as anyone.
BTW, Bonham IS Jewish...half, on his mother's side. Look it up if you don't believe me...
The fact that you keep looking up if their Jewish(or looked it up before now) shows how much YOU care..I'm just saying even if they are somehow PART jewish they are not the stereotypical jews like Gene Simmons..think of all the crap they sell with the KISS name on it.. ANYTHING and EVERYTHING...This is the complete opposite of Zeppelin. By the way I'm still curious as to where you get these facts.. lol anyway show me where it says Page is jewish because I didn't find ANYTHING.

No matter what they managed to outsell any band from the 70s and became one of the best selling bands of rock.

It's "official" name is 'Rice Pudding' as done by the Jeff Beck Group on 'Beck-Ola' Lp.
I suspect that it was originally a Yardbirds riff and probably Beck was the 1st to claim it on vinyl. Sounds like a Page riff to me.
It sure sounds good here. Amazing tone.
bobgure 3 years ago 4
Hendrix quoted it at the end of "In From the Storm"('Cry of Love').
Again, a fantastic, heavy riff.

The opening is a take on "Rice Pudding" from the Jeff Beck Group... just in a different key.

I tried to learn that beginning riff but it's pretty tough to make it sound as good as Page. That tone is hard to duplicate and the drums are really important for getting that groovy timing. It's similiar to The Ocean main riff and I'm almost certain he plays it in the same position(5th-7th fret). It's either that or he's playing it with open notes or at around the 10th-12th fret which doesn't seem right to me.
