@tupsumato Yes, you're right. The Voyager and Explorer are sister ships which look very similar, other than the smoke stack, etc. It's interesting that they both went through storms. The Explorer hit rough seas in the Pacific ocean, lost power and was rescued by coast guard.

@wsnyder2007, that's true. If I had to guess, I'd say there's something wrong with the ship's systems - a ship is not supposed to lose power if wave crashes to the bridge. That's why there are emergency controls in the engine and steering gear room.

That ship is the MV Explorer, used by Semester At Sea. There were about 600 college students on board when I wave knocked out power. They were towed to Hawaii where the ship was repaired. Search for "Semester At Sea Storm" for videos from the inside of the ship, of students sliding back and forth...

(I wasn't on during that time, but spent 4 months onboard)

This demonstrates very clearly why movies like the perfect storm (also known as the perfect waste of time) are a farce. The size of the waves relative to the ship here don't stand out as huge (at least not from this vantage point - I'm sure the folks on the lower decks were getting an eyefull), but look at the havoc it wreaks on the water craft.
