This is a great informative video. I just got my first shotgun, Mossberg, and am looking for info on cleaning, maintainance, etc. Thanks! You're cute, btw!
My Wal-Mart Mossburg is a piece of shit since I has to take it apart to clean it. Maybe they are great for cheap home defense and nothing else. But, my advice, is don't get it dirty because they are too hard to put back together.
@CI321 the recoil for a 12 or 20 gauge is not very strong at all unless you use high brass but other than that its manageable unless you dont take a stance then it will knock you around or even on your butt
@CI321 In my opinion it doesn't kick hard at all. Mine has a 18.5 inch barrel so its more of a home defense gun but I have heard great things about them for hunting with longer barrels.
ROFL LAWL ROFL LAWL ROFL LAWL! YOU SAID HOPPIES! ITS HOPPES. ITS NOT A RABBIT. But overall... good video, I am thinking about buying one of the Mossberg 500's.
Just got my childhood gun back from my parents (its been 35 years) Thank you for your awesome video to refresh my memory on gun cleaning. Your a good example of a confident mature young man!!!!!
@jdmusic07 Thanks for the possitive feedback and i gotta admit a few of my early videos on this channel were wreckless but then i realized im representing more than just myself on this channel so i straightened up lol
I am a novice with shotguns. I spent 4 years in the Marine Corps (over 30 years ago) and used to clean my M-14 every night. However, I have never owned a shotgun. I was unsure about using a wire brush to clean the barrel. Your video has been very helpful so I can clean my new Mossberg 500 after firing it and not worry about screwing something up.
my friend, be extra careful, because in models 500 and 590, barrels are unchromed. That means that the inside of the barrel is very sensitive to corrosion. You should clean it always after every shooting activity. And to clean it with the copper brush (putting a little barrel oil after that). this long chord will not help you to take out all the dirty (and you have dirty from firing powder and also little pieces from the "Pb" spheres...).
@briankofke I love my mossberg ive put this gun through hell, dirt, mud, freezing, raining, hell ive dropped it a few times and it has never failed to crack when i squeeze that trigger. Thanks for watching!
"Thoroughly cleaning your gun" consists of cleaning between vented ribs? WTF?! What about all the internal parts? Seems like you just might want to get the carbon and dirt out of the inside, you know, the parts vital for your gun to actually fire, then maybe clean your beloved "vented ribs".
hey boss im having a really hard time with my 535 12 gauge pump with it kickin out the last shell like you said...if you could tell me how you fixed that that would be good thanks man
A 500 is a basic Mossberg 500 receiver shotgun. Unless the gauge is stated, it's assumed it's a 12. The 500A is simply stating it as a "12 gauge" 500 in its name. The Mossy 500A is a 12 gauge model 500, the 500B is a 16 gauge model 500, the 500C is a 20 gauge etc. There was no 28 gauge so there is no 500D, contrary to many sources, so the next one was the .410 called the 500E.
look at the belly of the gun right in front of were you put the shells in the magazine and it should say Mossberg 500 or Mossberg 500A its basically the same weapon. Thanks for watching!
I have just been tying fishing like to an old torn up shirt and pulling down my barrel, but after watching this I will make sure to get a proper cleaning kit and barrel snake.
Hey buddy sorry to bother just had a quick question. That hoppe's elite, is it used also as a lubricant or just for cleaning. and by the way everything works great thanx..
Its no problem at all and Hoppes elite is strictly just a cleaner but its by far the finest cleaner i use on all of my firearms. For lubricant try remoil it works great
Hey sorry for removing your other comment i meant to hit reply and i hit remove, but what i didnt elaborate on in the video is that the military uses the Mossberg 590 it is the only weapon between the 870 and a winchester that didnt fail from 3000 rounds of 00 buckshot, but agian the military also uses the 870 my prefeance is Mossberg but thanks for watching!
I'm surprised you didn't take down all of it. Rip it apart man. It's a Mossberg you're not gonna hurt it.

6:05 Don't put a wire brush down a barrel like that, it drops dust and crap into the firing pin.
