It seems like it would last quite a while, but it isn't good for large scale operation mainly just little things like sensors and small transistor raidos or perhaps even charging a cellular phone

Belt fatigue would be the main thing I'd worry about. I doubt it would ever need lubrication so that's a plus.
Indeed belt fatigue would become a problem over the long run.
