He may not be the most technical guitar player, but jesus christ, is he one of the most underrated. I kind of compare him to hendrix. He puts so much feeling into his playing, as opposed to all these big names who rattle off a bunch of obscure sweep picking patterns over and over.
Quite the opposite for me, the studio recordings benefit from rhythm guitar and solo together. Live when J solos the rhythm guitar obviously has to stop and a large hole appears in the sound as well as removing a counterpoint to the solo. I like the way J weaves a solo on studio tracks, live it can be a bit of a HM wank fest. I still always go to see them live though, naturally,
brendaoin, you are not a trained musician. That Is a lie. Also, when you say you are not impressed, that is also a lie.I shall speak the truth,-your absolutly fuct in the head.
Let me help you out a little here, check out some J.mascis here on u-tube, watch a bunch, feel stupid for saying what you said then forn a intelligent opinion.3 easy steps to not sounding so stupid again.
I remember Jenny Jones saying Dinosaur Jr is on the program & I was like, WTF is she rattling on about? No joke. & they were no joke. Kick ass! Thanks for posting this!
I love dinosaur jr and j mascis is so cool I have you`re living all over me where you been whitou a sound hand it over beyond farm green mind whatever is cool with me

But then later when J does melody....it's simply J Mascis signature lead..very nice.

To me this sounds like a messier EVH. But that's a good thing. I LUV the attitude in it.

J, THE #1 most underrated guitarist ever.
Such a shame. If only others were aware of his skills.

He did a great version of Funkadelic/Eddie Hazel's Maggot Brain with Bernie Worrell on Mike Watt's album.
There's a live version on YouTube without Worrell here: watch?v=kkGla6BKofU

@rockerdude29 i'm pretty sure he's not underrated at all
popp1nbottlez 1 year ago
@popp1nbottlez Whys that? How many people do you honestly hear talking about J Mascis' guitar playing, let alone J. Mascis or Dino Jr?
rockerdude29 1 year ago
@rockerdude29 i'm not sure that underrated means underheard. i think people that know of him and his work don't think negatively of it.
