I have yet to read Sheuer's book, but I don't think it so much a glorification or praising of Bin Laden so much as a reassessment of the efficacy of the U.S.'s hunt for him.

I have read "Imperial Hubris" and am currently reading "Marching Towards Hell." Scheuer does not glorify bin Laden, rather he helps the reader get into bin Laden's head to understand how he thinks. This is necessary if one is to really understand bin Laden and the reason for his appeal in the Muslim world.

I once read a book discussing the bombing of the USS Liberty that explained a lot of what went wrong. When Israel observed the Liberty in the area, they asked the Pentagon several times if there was a US ship there. When the US informed Israel that it had no ships in the area, Israel thought that the Egyptians or Russians were masquerading as a US vessel to spy on Israel and therefore attacked it. That's why it took about 9 hours before they attacked it instead of doing it right away.
