  • MMA

    Shields > garcia

  • @jitzmaster another sport

  • oh scoopops! He tapped jake out sweet

  • Alliance !!!!!!! Best team in the world

  • "AJJ"

    nice joke

  • @vvaannddaallll, put the gloves on. Your retarded, Jakes spends less than half the time Marcelo does on jiujitsu. Until come to Jakes and tap him, you dont have much room to talk. Besides, the two are good friends and even got ready for the GSP fight together.

  • Marcelo can get a choke from any angle.

  • AJJ???? Haha I've herd it all now lmfao

  • Holy shit he schooled Shields, who schools everybody else ... did that make sense?

  • Marcelo Garcia is one of the best grapplers in the world, bar none.

  • Shields was asked if he wanted to fight Marcelo in MMAt. Shields said " No he only has one MMA fight, but I would really love to fight him again in sub wrestling, where he is the best in the world."

Shields didn't say Marcelo lost in his one MMA fight.. Garcia is the master of sub grappling. I have watched him a few times live and he is the most exciting guy in the sport.

Shields adapted wresting to Gracie black belt BJJ in a way Royce said adds more aggression & helped evolve JJ for MMA.

    .

  • Me gustaria ver en este torneo a campeones de "Sambo"

I like to see in this tournament champions of "Sambo"

Я хотел бы видеть в этом турнире чемпионов "самбо"

  • Bout lasted over eight minutes, Marcelo is the man, but Shields only grapples once every couple years, so got to give him some. His pay day is MMA.

  • That shit looks so easy. I could do that in my sleep.

  • lool at marcelo scoping jake's neck at 0:46 before he pounces on it like a vampire

  • @nighthawke2

Maybe, but its funny how suprised Marcelo always looks when he finds an opening. It will be super slick but the expression on his face is like he didn't expect it.

  • "American" Jiu-jitsu my ass.

  • @Raideortega This match lasted awhile. Jake was asked if he wanted to fight Marcello in MMA, he said "No Marcello only has one fight, but I would love to fight him in submission wrestling again he's the best in the world at that."

Jake didn't mention that Marcello lost his only MMA fight, Jake does sub tourneys about once a year and he is ranked top five. American Jiu Jitsu is designed for MMA and self defense. Five minute rounds in MMA and people are punching, kicking, kneeing & grapping.

  • @Raideortega thank you Sr.!!!

  • Marcelo??? With a alliance rash guard?

  • i love you marcelo

  • unfortunately, gloves are the worst enemy of small grapplers in mma, very difficult to sneak your little hands in order to choke with those f"""in gloves :(

Look at marcelinho's fight in mma, he totally dominated the match but... those gloves...

  • how can this marcelo guy be "one of the best of the world."? i never heard of him. and i keep up with MMA all the time.

  • @judgerofwars He's the best in the world at BJJ.

  • @judgerofwars He doesn't fight MMA only submission fighting.

  • @judgerofwars not in mma he sucks at it ... he is good at what you saw on the vid....

  • 0:53 Jake's face is like: "Holy shit I'm getting tapped by a guillotine choke ... and this isn't even a guillotine choke position! WTF?"

  • Fuck american jiu jitsu ... Pure Brazilian is the best and this video proves it

  • @ufcbrazil99 What the heck is American Jiu Jitsu?

  • @chozn11 its something that jake shields thought would look cool tattoo'd on his forearm...another reason I dislike him. American Jiu Jitsu? When you completely revamp a martial art and then prove to the world that it is one of the most effective self defense systems ever THEN you can call it whatever you want, until then, Mr. Shields, there is no such thing as American Jiu Jitsu

  • @Scav922 American Jiu Jitsu is a Gi Less form of Jiu Jitsu for MMA and self defense. It combines the power and aggressive force and control of wrestling with the position, transition and submission techniques of Jiu Jitsu.

Jake Shields is one of only 3 blackbelts awarded by Cesar Gracie in 23 years as a teacher. He is also a national Freestyle Wrestling champion who was asked to join the USA Freestyle team. As a single father he couldn't afford it.

  • @tanglestrangle A gi less form of jiu jitsu? isnt that no gi jiu jitsu? I meant no disrespect to Shields, just that I blatantly don't like him. I still don't buy "american jiu jitsu" Basically what you described was no gi... aggressive no gi where a wrestler uses what he knows. I respect Jake for his accomplishments under Cesar Gracie, never would I dispute his knowledge and ability. The only thing I dispute is the existence of "American Jiu Jitsu" as its own martial art ;)

  • @Scav922 No one has married (made-one) wrestling and Jiu Jitsu as well as Shields. AJJ is for MMA, 5 minute rounds, punches, kicks, knees etc. There have been many great BJJ players who haven't done that well at MMA.

A lot of sport Jiu Jitsu moves would get you hurt in a real fight, there are more moves that would win you a fight, but Jitz and fighting/MMA are different animals.

  • @Scav922

I know it doesn't exist. I am just ridiculing this idiot who has a problem with Americans stating what he did to make some stupid point. Then he goes on to confirm even more how stupid he is by saying Pure Brazilian. Brazilian what? If he is referring to BJJ that's just the ground aspect of Ju-Jitsu as a whole which was created in Japan.

  • @chozn11 i feel ya, youre honestly the first person I have ever seen on youtube that knows his stuff and knows his HISTORY. Ju-Jitsu=Japanese, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu=revamped and modified version of Japanese Ju-Jitsu, American Jiu-Jitsu=nonexistent. People need to get their shit straight and not 'educate' themselves based on what they've seen from the UFC in the past 3 years.

  • @Scav922, he calls it american jiujitsu, because he uses a relaxed driving style and more explosive submissions than most practitioners of the art. He only differentiates it from pure traditional. He places on emphasis on power as well as technique. That is what makes his style unique, no one ever said it was better.

  • @fcuk4220 nor did I

  • @fcuk4220 Well said.

  • @fcuk4220 american jiujitsu no existe

  • @MegaTiger40 yup its all just judo really

  • @crabbit87 no this is jiujitsu! brazilian jiujitsu

  • @MegaTiger40 No this is not BJJ, its submission grappling, Shields has won some major tournaments as a part timer, that's why he is in with Marcelo .But $5k to 20k is less than he make's in MMA so he only does once every couple years. American Jiu Jitsu is not Japanese or Brazilian JJ and its not sub wrestling. It is designed for MMA, where you can't wait for your opponent to make a mistake you have to force him to and there are knees to the face and kicks to the head etc

  • @fcuk4220 well every fighter has his own style. To call it american ju jitsu is just a freagin weak attempt at stealing all the merit from brazil. What percentage of this "american" JJ comes from him and what part is plain BJJ? He owes everything to BJJ and to call it american JJ is a fucking joke.

  • @furiousmat I think that it just incorporates more freestyle wrestling into the equation. But I agree, a lot of it is just bjj.

  • @furiousmat Probably his takedown ability lol. And the lack of butt scooting

  • @furiousmat So you are saying adding a couple moves from bottom and calling it Brazilian Jiu Jistu is a fucking joke. I studied Japanese Jiu Jitsu in my twenties, works pretty well against the average bully. Shields added a lot of push the action wrestling to BJJ so it is more useful for MMA and self defense. Same thing, he also dropped a couple of sports JJ moved that will get you hurt in a fight, how dare he.

  • @tanglestrangle huh.. what? I really don't understand what's your point here but if you're saying that I should say BJJ is a joke because it came from JJ you're just out. BJJ and JJ have very few in comon and while JJ does include ground game they just don't use it and the gracies improved it and adapted it A LOT.. and I know what I'm talking about cuz I attended both martial arts in several schools. AJJ is just a myth. BJJ is a style of its own. What if GSP called his style "Canadian karate".

  • @furiousmat would you go on and say "well he mixes his karate striking with wrestling". That's bullshit. Modern fighters MIX styles they don't CREATE styles. Shields does just the same as the other fighters but he just happens to have the audacity to try to name it after his country and rob from brazil. All the subs are from BJJ and the wrestling part well.. its from wrestling.. And wrestling isn't nearly an exclusivly american sport its worldwide. And mixing both together is just called MMA.

  • @furiousmat They do say he does a great job of mixing his karate with boxing in case of GSP and his karate with muay thai in case of Machida. Striking style with striking style.

Shields mixes wrestling with jiu jitsu like the Gracie's added more bottom game to jujitsu. Shields is working with 6 Gracie's in this training camp. Royce has praised the added aggression & "Many BJJ players get grounded and pounded by going to guard in this position,Shields slid hip under & use Okami push to stand"

  • @oakmantex huh. but yet does Machida call his style "brazilian karate" or GSP call his style "canadian boxing"? And you said it. He works with 6 gracies in his training camp. Where do gracies come from? yeah that's right. From brazil. So basically all his knowledge comes from brazilians but yet he calls his style american ju jitsu. Shields mixes Ju jitsu and wrestling. Cool. I guess that's why he fights in MIXED MARTIAL ARTS! mixing 2 martial arts doesn't mean you created a new one.

  • @furiousmat Both Royce & Cesar have praised Shields style, saying it is JJ made for MMA. Probable a lot of people on this site have been watching MMA since the first UFC. Do you remember the 30 minute matches were a wrestler layed on a Jiu jitsu player the whole time.? The wrestler throwing a punch every 2-3 minutes the JJ fighter trying a move from time to time? No stand ups, no rounds.

It is a new game & AJJ works, Shields learns all he can from BJJ, and top BJJ fighters learn from him.

  • @oakmantex t saw Cesar talking about the Scrap Pack and its evolution. He said Shields brought a lot of wrestling into the room. I didn't object, I know many schools would have, but I could see Jake was learning Jiu Jitsu and he was using wrestling to complement BJJ. Everyone was getting better because of it. I am always open to new ways that improve the game.

  • @furiousmat its called machida karate cuz his father perfected that style. the gracies got jiujitsu from the japs and helio perfected it in brazil. shields is doing the same with his mix of wrestling and aggresive positional top game bjj. dont be so butthurt

  • @furiousmat My point is the Gracie's improved Japanese Jiu Jitsu with more bottom game (Shields is a Gracie Black Belt) and Shields improved on that as used in MMA and self defense. Shields is a national freestyle champ and an All American wrestler. He mixed 20 years wrestling and 12 years of BJJ.

You only have 5 minute rounds in MMA you can't wait for your opponent to make a mistake. AJJ also devalues some moves that get points in a tourney but get a knee in your face in MMA or a fight.

  • @Scav922 agreed... and why would you call jakes style AJJ, he got his black belt from ceaser gracie(bjj). And before bjj he was already a wrestler.

  • @SJVEChannel Yes a Gracie black belt and a national freestyle wrestling champ who was invited to join the US Team. Shields has married (made one) wrestling and Jiu Jitsu better than anyone else. The power, force and position of wrestling and the transition and submissions of Jiu Jitsu.

AJJ for MMA designed to push the action in five minute fights, with strikes.

  • watch out marcelo terere is back.

  • shields sucks

  • Marcelo is helping Shields train for GSP which is quite cool

  • @yoshi529 Yeah. Its cool. Too bad it didnt help...

  • @yoshi529 How did that workout for Shields? LOL

  • @yoshi529

    yeah that went well

  • P4P Garcia probably has the BJJ today.

  • HAHA and he claims to be the best bjj ? cant even beat marcelo, no best bjj....gsp gonna own him, gsp has beaten marcelo twice, i seen it with own eyes, it was never taped so not many people know about it.

  • @alwayzsic What do you mean by "cant EVEN beat marcelo"? Marcelo is arguably one of the best Pound for Pound no Gi BJJ fighters in the world.

  • @alwayzsic

shut the fuck up....Marcelo Garcia would tap GSP 20 times in 2 minutes and thats not even debatable....the 2 have never sparred so quit ur yapping...Marcelo makes top level, bigger BJJ black belts look like white belts alot of the time....hes he best grappler EVER..

  • @MFBueno63 20 times in 2 minutes? no... best EVER? no. I do agree he's a better submission grappler but your statements are a little extreme.

  • @sinister0077

I think he would tap GSP AT LEAST 10 times in 2 minutes....try watchin him roll w/ Ben Askren, one of MMA's best welterweights, a national champion Division 1 wrestler and BJJ brown belt......he taps him AT WILL.....try watchin Marcelo roll w/ Andrei Arlovski.....a 240 lb guy who is a good grappler...he taps him at will also...marcelo went through Mark Laimon(top level BJJ black belt, way better than GSP) 10 times in 5 minutes when they sparred...hes just that good

  • @MFBueno63 Ive been watching some of his stuff and i must admit, he IS just that good. I have no problem admitting when im wrong :)

  • @sinister0077

nice, yea hes the man for sure.....most top level grapplers agree hes the best theres ever been....listen to eddie bravo talk about him here on youtube...

  • @MFBueno63 There's also a good couple of clips of him rolling with Ryan Hall where MG just rolls right through him. And Ryan Hall is amazing. MG IS just that good.

  • @MFBueno63 where is this video of mark laimon and marcelo??? have you really seen this?

  • @ksakuraba39

its a massive and pretty much confirmed rumor around the internet.....supposedly there is a video but it hasn't been released...

  • @MFBueno63 of course he would go through gsp. i dont think anybody would disagree with that lol

  • @MFBueno63 No 1 would dispute that. This guy is probably the best in the world at BJJ but make no mistake about it. GSP would KO him in MMA.

  • no shame in loosing to marcelo

  • @jas108 Was gonna say the same thing

  • no shame here, marcelo is the best in the world!

  • checkmate

  • Jus been watching Marcelo beating heavyweights in Absolute BJJ competitions, the guys amazing

  • marcelo is a beast, nuff said.

  • Terere

  • wow i never seen this fight, this is the first time i ever seen Shields tap out... pretty interesting.

  • 0:45 sneaky look at the neck lol

  • punked out liek a bitch ,,,,,i beat marcelo before i beat him again

  • @DuhWinningAdonisDNA Vid or it didn't happen douche :)

  • WOW!! Sick!!

  • pause at 0.54 looool

  • Esse Marcelinho é muito casca-grossa no grappling.

  • Shields is the Magic Johnson of BJJ....Marcelo is Jordan

  • marcelos so great

  • é um domínio impressionante, o considero no submission melhor que o roger gracie, visto sua envergadura e tamanho.

  • Marcelo is on another planet compared to Shields... and everyone else.. terere is on an even bigger planet than marcelo.... insane BJJ....

  • I love the music, who made it?

  • @monkfg i did, right after i fucked your mum

  • No mames pinche Marcelo, eres grande.

  • fuck modify guillotine. is sick!!!

  • Marcelo, king of the guillotine.

  • Damn. He made Shields look like an amateur.

  • @mixmaster2669 dude why are you lieing? I was there live, in Culver City, and the match was maximum 2 minutes. They had rounds and the rounds were no longer then 5 minutes. He tapped him in he first round. He even took him down.

  • @Arminsaf2 You're the one who needs to stop lieing. The official time was 3:33 of a 4 minute round. The video is on MMATKO right now.How does it feel to be owned?

  • @blazinbleezies lol really not that bad. Sorry I lied, and was off by a minute and a half. Got caught up being mesmerized watching Marcelo Garcia live. lol can you blame me for not worrying about the time and actually watching the match? Again sorry I lied, but hopefully I didnt end anyones life by this lie.

  • watch the ben askren video. Same Choke...but from a handstand position its like ???how the hell did he do that?

  • @cfrancis pffft Ben Askren sucks, he's going to get served when he fights someone with decent takedown defense

  • gsp is gonna murder jake.

  • @beeeefcurtains Word!

  • More domination from Marcelo Garcia. One of the best.

  • ive never seen jake get tapped out untill now. marcelo is bad ass.

  • Comment removed

  • Looks like peruvian necktie from the top and not a guillotine. He started with a guilitone and transitioned into the sub.

  • @mcricecrispi Yea. Just no arm. So would it be a no arm Peruvian neck tie or a different move all together.

  • @mcricecrispi not a peruvian necktie, that kinda has the deadlift move in it. I would say it was just a guillotine from an odd position.

  • Marcello did not give him a chance to get a game plan going

  • KILLOTINE !!!!!

  • Vicious guillotine.

  • pawnd

  • shields pawnd

  • I am not the Marcelo Garcia fan everybody else is, but he is slick. He seems to have a sixth sense when it comes to coming out on the winning end of scrambles.

  • SO awsome... hahah I love it!

    two good men!

  • MARCELO GARCIA É FODA!!!!!

  • Marcelo's guillotines are innatural, I think he's the best in the world in this particular sub

  • @Madmac79 He actually is probably the best in the world period.

  • SCHOOLED....

  • guys this is not a peruvian necktie it's a guillotine from mount...it's Marcelo's thing, remember he grabbed the neck when Jake was on his side and then trans.ed into mount.

  • wow that was way faster than i thought it would be.........good guillotine

  • SHIELDS=OWNED LOL

  • Sorry dude's, its not a peruvian neck tie. If it was a peruvian neck tie than the leg has to be over the back of the head. It was just a variation of the guillotine.

  • @joeygandy goddamn right he was his weird mounted one he does. gets a lot of people with it.

  • @joeygandy is correct, I'm a necktie masta, and that was no Necktie

  • garcia is amazing... jake is gay haha

  • isn't that a Peruvian neck tie?

  • its a plain ol guillotine that he finishes from the mount....

  • @MFBueno63 It's not exactly a plain ol Guillotine. Marcelo's guillotine involves flaring the support elbow high to block their shoulder. The finishes are different whether it's from bottom, side control, or full mount, but from full mount you post your forehead and flare both elbows towards the mat. Most mounted Guillotines involve putting your weight on your hips and legs and arching backwards. Marcelo's is tighter.

  • it was only a matter of time.

  • marcelo s got the best squeeze in the game

  • Gsp said on ifight365 that Jake Shields would be dream fight like, Fedor vs Lesner.

Then he said Shields would beat him in a grappling match, but he thought he could beat Shields in MMA, said only one way to find out. I thought it was cool he said Jake would win the grappling.

  • Comment removed

  • This thing was edited by someone that doesn't like to watch grappling. It jumps around all the time, something gets interesting and then it jumps ahead..

  • what choke was that?? a guillotine??

  • @muddychucks yeah it was a guillotine from the top position. that is marcelo's new thing now... ive seen him go for it more than RNC. i think everybody started expecting the rear naked from him so he switched it up with this new choke. been catching a lot of guys with it... as if they didnt have enough to worry about with marcelo already lol. he may choke u from the back or he may choke you from the front

  • Comment removed

  • @seigemma4 No sir. It's called a Guillotine choke. It's a different angle and pressure than the old fashioned closed guard guillotine, but it's a guillotine nonetheless. Watch Marcelo vs. Kron Gracie, Mike Fowler, George Sotiropolous, Ryan Hall, etc, etc, to see the finish and more details. Most, if not all of these are on youtube. There's more but I'm not typing anymore names lol.

  • @seigemma4 also..... Marcelo does not do head-and-arm chokes (arm triangle, darce/brabo, anaconda, peruvian necktie, reverse arm triangle, japanese necktie, etc) because he believes they are too diffiult for him to do against larger bodied fighters given his stature and limb length. It's easier for him to focus on RNCs, Guillotines, and North/South chokes.

  • @WhtMike2006 i never said it wasnt a guillotine.... it is a guillotine from mount and marcelo simply just thinks his arms are to short to do monoson chokes, darce, anaconda's head and arm chokes at all. but he does do arm triangles.. and i never said he didnt focus more on chokes that dont require an arm in... ive rolled with him his squeeze is amazing. i really dont know why u made this comment.

  • @seigemma4 also.... Marcelo has never done any arm triangle/head-and-arm variation in ADCC, PSL, GQuest, or any other tournament over the past 7 years to sub anyone. He's been tapped with a Darce, but that's it. I actually need to work on my bow and arrow, it's pretty bad. You're lucky you got to roll with Marcelo, I'm trying to visit the NYC school this summer.

  • @WhtMike2006 if your looking for a in depth bjj talk i can do that. we can talk about de le Riva guard, x-guard, turtle guard, s-mount, modified s-mount, spider guard, butterfly guard, single butterfly, or we can talk gi chokes guard passes, monson choke variations, bread slicer, bow and arrow, any guard. if your no gi we can talk some advanced no gi passes. but im not sure why u commented or replied to me..

  • @seigemma4 Sorry I meant to reply to the guy that said this move was a Peruvian Necktie. I made the comments about the arm triangle variations because Marcelo recently made a comment that he is not doing Kimuras or arm triangle variations anymore because he cannot do them on the biggest of people. Personally, the Darce ismy best sub, so I was not neccesarily agreeing.

  • @seigemma4 Also, LOL I feel bad about this, but Marcelo doesn't think his arms are too short for Monson/North-South chokes. He won his division in 2007 with one. He used it in the Absolute. He used one last year. He used one against Cameron Earle, Ben Askren, and Gregor Gracie, and he even did one in the gi last weekend in his first match in the Mundials. He does them everyday in his gym.

  • @WhtMike2006 bro north/south chokes and monson chokes are to different things.. a monson choke is an arm in choke from north south... and i promise marcelo has never used one. north south choke is completely different and has no arm in. I feel bad for this but u dont know what your talking about.

  • @seigemma4 Ok it's ironic you are calling me the youtube fanatic. Every gym I've ever trained in has not differentiated between the N/S and Monson choke. It's a choke from N/S, who cares? If the arm is inside the choke, it's a reverse arm triangle at every place I've trained. I've done JiuJitsu for 5 years, and just got home from a Rodrigo Gracie seminar in NC 5 minutes ago.

  • @WhtMike2006 If you want to have an in depth bjj conversation i would love that, it is easy to tell when someone has little to no bjj experience and just watches videos. well believe it or not there are people who are actually experienced in bjj in the world. And it is funny you say marcelo never uses an arm triangle. because he caught me in one... and just because he didnt use it in a tournament because isnt as comfortable with as some of his bread and butter sutff doesnt mean he doesnt use it.

  • @seigemma4 Stop being an elitist and telling me that "if you're in the mood" you "may show me a pendulum sweep." You can't learn moves by typing to each other or through videos. Look, I wanna talk about your time with Marcelo, because I am visiting him next week, my family is in NYC. Any further discussion should be thru PMs, as we are wasting space for people to talk.

  • @WhtMike2006 I wish I would have seen this earlier, I rent vacation rentals in NYC next time you're in town, let me know.

  • @WhtMike2006 Once again you are just proving the difference between someone who actually participates at a dojo and a youtube fanatic. please test me we can talk about any guard you want, any submission, any sweep, any mount or back mount, and sidecontrol, even twister side control even though 10th planet is a joke.. hell i might even teach you a fucking pendulum sweep. it will depend on my mood..

  • The Pro Sub League is great and year round. This match was 8 or 9 minutes long ,so would love to see the whole match. A reporter asked Shields if he wanted to fight Garcia in MMA, Jake said no Garcia only has one fight, but he would love to fight him again in Sub Wrestling because Marcelo is the best in the world, a real challenge.

  • @oakmantex do you know where i could find the full match?

  • what is this pls, is it on tv is it a once a year thing?

  • man, the editing is so annoying, I know it's a hl but it ruins the whole grappling atmosphere in my opinion.

  • Marcelo is a beast! Love him!

  • damm that was a sick choke,

  • Its just amazing what Marcelo does to other top ranked grapplers on the mat.

He is shooting so hard to beat Roger Gracie. I just think Rogers size is too much to overcome.

  • marcelo has beat people with size before but rogers technique is amazing. I dont think he has ever been submitted in competition. his defense is so amazing

    but roger has one weakness

-he goes for the submission even when he should just get the points thats how he lost the absolute to xande in 2006

  • I love seeing Shields get tooled like that. War Marcello!

  • I love how Marcelo just instantly goes for X-Guard :P. Both Jake and Marcelo are great grapplers, but Marcelo was the best man in that bout.

  • @XguitrfreekX Didn't see X-guard once. Maybe you meant deep half?

  • @iBryk nope he used xguard when he went backdoor from half guard

  • @XguitrfreekX Marcelo would win 10/10 matches with Jake im afraid. And im a big shields fan

  • @gullis187 Actualy saw them go at it 8-9 times at a Marcelo seminar (and after) and it was close with Marcelo having a slight edge. Taps one each but Garcia had more control positions.

Marcelo is the Jordon of BJJ, but Jake brings it to MMA better than anyone else.

  • @oakmantex Man I would love to have seen that, jealous much! Jake wouldve won every mma match against marcelo, but straight grappling is marcelos world. wish marcelo would train straight wrestling, he would be unstoppable!

  • @oakmantex didnt he lost???

  • sick submission

looks kinda of like a upside down pervian necktie but i donno looks like hes choking him not so much cranking the neck

    what is that? lol
