  • I attempted to complete the tut using 2.49b with little success(several months ago). I just finished your tutorial using 2.58b(with major success)!! Hooray. Thanks for the Portal and Fire tutorials. You're one of the best blender teachers out there. Love your German accent

  • Hey man,

Did you knew shift+spacebar makes your 'current' window-type full-screen?

(not exactly full screen but just try it ;) )

I use that all the time when I use the node editor :)

  • @MrCedal Actually, I didn't know that. That's a pretty useful hotkey. Thanks.

  • Hmmm I'm trying this in 2.55 and stuck at the scripted expression. My guess is the script expression changes in 2.55 and was trying it this way instead of keying it. Do you have any idea what the equivalent expression to b.Get("curframe") is in 2.55?

Hmm Still working on it.. Think it might be "bpy.context.scene.frame_current"

  • @S0Strax I don't know the new expression, yet. But it's not important. With two keyframes and a linear extrapolation mode you also have a constant movement, which is independent from the animation frame count.

  • This is no where near as good as your original effect! The "portal" isn't teleporting you anywhere, it is just changing the texture... You should use this effect for when the camera puts glasses on or somthing, becuase the location is not changing.

  • @Blendiv You can do anything you want in that second layer. It doesn't have to be the same with a different texture... this is only an example.

  • @NionsChannel Oh, ok. Thanks a lot, that probably why I should have actually watched the whole tutorial before commenting. I will watch it, I am just not on the computer on which I use blender at the moment.

  • Nion sorry my english is not the best.. it seems you know a lot about the particle system. im interested in your logo animation.. how do you morph your logo into particles like sand? with the explode modi..? in my animation.. the particles explode like glass shades.. how can i make fix it? could you answer me short?

  • @mebleedswine watch my first Episode of "Nion's Blender Experiments". It might help.

  • umm could you release a landscape tutorial? I would like to get landscapes like the one you have at 1:16 but mine always look bad :(

  • I like your videos and it's thanks to you that I was able to create a fire simulation.

I hope the next tutorial you make will be rain I haven't seen too many good ones on rain.

  • Whenever I do the ipo expression for the empty, it moves to the center and then does nothing throughout the animation. The only I can get it to move is to keyframe it. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I have no problem key framing it, I just want to try using this expression. Any help?

  • i wished to make the alyers with diferent world color, how can i do that?

  • dude awesome!

  • The portal follows the empty for me. How can I fix this?

  • Have you parented the portal to the empty?

  • No I didn't.

I made another portal which worked. So I must have done something wrong on the first portal.

  • oh wait my bad strike that last comment

  • in the nodes editor there was nothing in the render layer no picture of the world what did i miss?

  • 5* =D

  • How do you add a render layer???

  • It is shown at 6:35

  • @NionsChannel hi thx for the great, easy-to-follow tutorial. a few questions --> how do you make the terrain and where did you get the texture from? also in your other portal video, as soon as the viewer enters the portal the whole sky flashes white for a second. how do you apply the same thing to this tutorial? last question > i really like the burning monkey paper effect. can you please make a tutorial on that if possible? pls and thx!

  • Thanks for doing such a nice tutorial, it was well done and I could follow it well except for the Z depth portion.

Vid making question: Part 1 has superb image quality (better than 2 and 3) How did you get YouTube to make such a nice conversion - what settings / format etc did you use?? as you can see in part 2 and 3 YouTube vid resolution is sometimes better and sometimes worse!!

  • For recording the video I choosed the microsoft video codec. I had a resolution of 1280x720 and 25 fps. I compressed the video with a xvid codec at maximum bitrate.

  • ya awesome tut!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great tutorial! 5stars5!
