I love Tolkien, one of the greatest writers in history whose legends can be compared to Virgil or Homer. But damn if he isn't one of the worst orators I have heard.

@HistoryLubber Yes, many people thought that his talking isn't all that clear. But even if he stuttered with normal speech, he could still spell text like prose and poems quite well.

@TolHydra - you can find Tolkien in all his creations, he is wise as Gandalf, brave and adventurous as Bilbo, determined as Frodo, home-loving as Sam, mumbling as Gollum, honorable as Aragorn, and easy to laugh like Tom Bombadil

I always kind of imagined him as looking like Gandalf or something, it's kind of weird to see him as an ordinary guy... but who cares, he was brilliant!

The video clips that have the ETV logo come from a documentary called J R R Tolkien An Awfully Big Adventure. Those without the logo come from a different documentary: J.R.R.Tolkien.Master.of.the.Rings
