  • I suspect the ol' monk-scribe there gets a hard on over TOTAL WAR

  • I agree with you who say that Danmark was the greatest kingdom in Scandinavia, during the medival time, I don´t know about Norway but Sweden was more powerful around the 1600´s and now we are weak again, (dam) :(

BTW Danmark was the first kingdom in Scandinavia (I think) Sweden was very late, mabye the last kingdom in Scandinavia, ( I sad MABYE so i might be wrong)

But Scandinavia was, no matter what, at the top during the Kalmar Union.

  • VIKINGS!

  • @okolp I can tell you "okolp" That the swedish vikings who plundered in the east created there Europes greatest kingdom with floroushing trade centers and mighty cities all the way from the borders of Russia to the black sea and even to CHINA!!! we even founded Russia man!!! Now thats what i call doing something to be remebered for. AND Rurik our cheiftain was among the most mighty and powerful men in Europe at the time

So stop pretend like you're better than us!

  • i would love a scandinavia campaign: wthe the kingdoms: Denmark,Norway,Sweden and the Geats ( the southern part of sweden it's called Götaland in swedish ). Then also the nomad people like the sami who lives in the scandinavian mountains, and all those people in the east ( Finland and the baltic states )

  • bah the swedes owned most of denmark in the 1600 somthing denmark surrenderd an gave us Skåne for their survival i would have just kille em all an take skåne anyway.

  • I kinda wish the faction intros were a bit more unique

  • If all of scandinavia was unified at this moment they could easily have risen an amazing empire which could have streched throughout all of Europe of course the danes where the best warriors, but the many people of Sweden, Norway, Iceland and Finland would have been a great support even though the swedes where much like the greeks with 3 smaller kingdoms more interesting in fighting eachother

  • I would agree with you. Scandinavia had some amazingly great winter warriors only if they were unified they could of taken on Europe. They had been unified as the Kalmar Union later on but by that time the Viking era has long ended.

  • I realise this is 1 year late but I still felt I had to say something. Even if they could have taken over entire Europe, I think it would have been a shame if they had done so.

People should learn from the fall of Rome and other great Empires. If they had taken over, they would sooner or later have lost control, and it would probably have killed them off for good.

If a certain country or people is unusually strong and inventive, it should stay within its borders, and grow even stronger.

  • @AtrumMixer Yes, however the Romans were killed off but influences of their language, culture, and heritage still remain. Still though make a good point. Nobody could match anything that the Romans have done, so why bother.

  • Not completely killed off. They continued their work in Byzantium.

  • @AtrumMixer Well, as Romans they were but the Greeks continued their legacy.

  • @MBjarno

Are you retarded? The Danes didn't have the best troops. They had the best placement on the European continent. The Norwegians had the clearly best warrior, as they always caused disproportionate losses to the enemy. The problem was that Norway had a smaller population, fewer resources and difficult terrain. Denmark was and is flat as a pancake, meaning it's easy to move troops and grow the land. They also had access to both mainland Europe and Scandinavia.

  • @MBjarno well don't forget that like sweden, iceland was just mainly a group of tribe like families who would do anything to kill each other off.

    just thought i'd mention it

  • @MBjarno Danes were the greatest warriors? How do you know? What about the legendary Norwegian berserker at stamford bridge? What about the originally Swedish varangian guard? Who were quoted as being "the finest physical specimens". Denmark had the highest population by the way.

  • the vikings was known to be some though guys running around killing and raping, but they were actually most of the time farmers.

  • How do you play as Denmark?

I just got the game today but I cant select them

  • @jb0609 You have to defeat them, but i'm two years late sooooo yeah :D Or you could google it and learn how to unlock all factions.

  • how to get these intro vids? my medieval II dont have these vids when starting at choosing faction to play from grand campaign there?or take from other places? and cases that pop out inside the game when playing a faction like the mongols invasion..the scroll that view the vid that talk about those things..:mine was blank..and theres no sound of the old guy talking the text under the vid..Someone please help me...

  • One of the bad things about the danes in this game is that we sounds like Germans and we say "da" like russia insted of Ja.

  • The Danish language is based on the German language, thats probaly why

  • Yeah Danish is a germanic language but it's odd because I take German in high school and there aren't many cognates between german and Danish/Norwegian/Swedish.

  • @nightfireivey The finnish word for sweden is "routs"alainen or something, there are sources that may indicate that swedes called themsleves "ruser/roser" and were from the area from "roslagen" on the swedish eastern coast.

  • @Blackie3391 The Danish language isnt based on the German language as we know it today. Yes Danish is a germanic language but German is almost entirely made by intellectuals a few hundred years ago. Even people who lived in Germany those days had to learn it as a forgein language.

    Not that it matters:P

  • @Blackie3391 Danish is not based on german dumbass!. I'm from Denmark, so i should know!

  • @Blackie3391 The Danish language is not based on the German language. All the Germanic languages are related but saying that Danish is based on German is the same as saying Swedish, Norwegian, Icelandic and Faroese are based on German, as these 5 languages have a clear common ancestor.

  • @Blackie3391 Or is the German language based on Danish? Actually German language is nothing like Danish. German language comes all the way from Austria.

  • Which one should I buy, Rome or medieval?

  • New channel! Please add me as a friend and subscribe!

  • I'm from Sweden, and those Swedes whining makes me feel embarrassed. Come on guys, learn your own history! Sweden was, as joonte1010 says, divided into three minor kingdoms, who didn't do much more than fight with each other. Ever heard of "Tre Kronor" (Three Crowns)? As okolp says, Denmark was alot stronger than "us". Norway too, I think. During the medieval ages, the Swedish kingdoms was more of a farmer population than anything else. "We" didn't have that much of military power, did "we"?

  • Didn't all of Scandinavia fight each other? That is until I guess when the Vikings decided to raid Britain I guess.

  • Well, yeah, but Denmark was most of the time alot stronger and the Swedish kingdoms were pretty weak if I remember correctly, so there is no reason to argue about Denmark being in the game and not Sweden. After all, we got our nation in Empire: Total War, and Denmark in M2:TW. Fair enough if you ask me :)

  • Yeah, sounds fair I suppose.

  • Yeah, but still, I wish you could be able to play those three kingdoms because that would be really fun for me as a Swede, but I understand why CA didn't bother that. Maybe in a future "Medieval 3: Total War" (there got to be one :P)...then I'd buy it instantly :P

  • @fetbanan Denmark was much more unified thats for sure, sweden was divided between geaths and swedes, and these ethnicities were even they not so connected with eachother.

  • @fetbanan denmark was in empire: total war too :)

  • @fetbanan denmark was definitely alot stronger during the Middle Ages, but around the time of Empire: Total War, Sweden controlled Denmark, Norway, and Sweden.

  • @fetbanan Denmark is also in napoleon total war.

  • I dont really know what i'm talking about but i think that there was something called "Union of Kalmar"? I dunno, just a guess.

  • @newnilzizi The union of Kalmar werent really in the viking age.

  • @fetbanan YES we had! Ever herd of the vikings? We had the greatest military and trading kingdom in Europe at 900! And we even founded Russia! THATS POWER!

  • Comment removed

  • If you study just a little lore you will know that Denmark simply overpowered Sweden and Norway. Denmark were definately the most succesful and fearsome of all vikings, they conquered and massacred England, Iceland, Greenland, Sweden, Norway, Germany, France, Italy and more. Sweden went and fooled around in the middle east with Estland and such. They didnt do much to be remembered for. Norway on the other hand discovered America. So the list is:

    1.Denmark

    2.Norway

    3.Sweden

    So stop whining, Swe.

  • hehehe your too right mate. However, the Swedes managed later on to create an empire and fought wars against the Poles, Germans, Danes, and Russians. They even managed to win in some of them

  • @okolp Well this is kinda old but the Swedish vikings founded Russia and became the bodyguards for the Bysantion emperor. And it was the guys from Iceland that discoverd America or what they called Vinland

  • Really? I've known that the Vikings founded America first but I didn't know they founded Russia..

  • @nightfireivey Well russ comes from the slavic name of viking i think might be wrong. Have a pleasant life.

  • @nightfireivey No, vikings did not "found america", they were the first westerners to explore america, but had no permanent settlements on the continent.

Historians beleive that "russia" comes from the swedish vikings, since "sweden" in finnish is "Ruotsi".

  • @wicNKWD37 Mabe a little late :D But "those guys" from Iceland, where Norwegian vikings. Both Iceland, Orkney Islands, Vinland (Newfoundland), Dublin, Faero Islands and Greenland belonged to Norwegians during the Viking age.

  • @okolp Um no, swedish viking are the founders of russia, and have little to do with finland, learn history. Finland was after, when sweden got christianised. And danes were the most active vikings yes, but fearsome? Nope.

And denmark didn't take over sweden in the viking age, I wont call denamrk a viking nation at that time I'm sorry it was too christianised.

  • @okolp And remember, we have danish terriotries, you don't have any swedish territories today hihi! We even have bohuslän, who belonged to norway in the past! Don't be so cocky. xD

  • @okolp I can tell you taht the Swedish vikings created Europes greatest kingdom wich where flourishing with trade centers all over the borders of Russia to the black sea even all the way to CHINA!!! They where also included as the imperial high guard of the Byzantine emperor Konstantinos! Because of our reputation as brutal warriors and mighty landlords And skilled traders! Our cheiftain Rurik was also the one who founded Russia he ws included as one of the mightiest rulers in Europe!

  • @okolp I can tell you that the kingdom of the swedish vikings were the greatest in europe! All categories! We had flourishing trade centers everywhere and we were feared all the way from the black sea to the borders of russia in the north!

  • @okolp What? Swedes founded russia and raded byzantium while sissy danes met some primitive englishmen and colonised empty territories, and denmark LOST wars against the geaths and swedes, they never plundered sweden, but denmark GOT PILLAGED BY ESTONIANS.

  • @okolp Cant say I Agree on that!

  • @okolp Tss tss I'm not even going to bother comment that ignorant fool!

  • @okolp Danes never conquered Iceland or Greenland, they were Norwegian-held, discovered and founded settlements until they were ceded to Denmark in the kalmar union. As for Norway, it wasn't actually conquered, the country simply collapsed after the black death which forced it into an unequal union.

I'd say Denmark was only slightly more powerful than Norway as a nation, but all 3 Scandinavian countries produced some badass warriors aka Vikings, like the Norwegian berserk at stamford bridge.

  • @okolp Pictures or it didn't happen.

  • @okolp Actually, the word "rus" is an eastern european word for swedish, russia and ukraine was ruled by swedish lords, and the Vaeringa-guard of the Byzantine empire consisted mainly of swedish vikings and "rus" vikings, and the famous battle of "Brådvalla" was fought between danish and swedish and the victorius swedish king became king of denmark. Read a proper history book, and keep out for blind pride.

  • @nar167 Well said. Each made big contributions in Europe. The Swedish involvement in Russia. Danish involvements in Normendy and Ireland. The Norwegians in Iceland, Greenland, Vinland.

  • Assuming this game is set during the middle age (duh!) Sweden was preoccupied whith civil strife.

  • Why denmark? sweden had the second largest kingdom after rome, and their kingdom was built with pure force

  • I agree. However in Medieval II total war there is no Sweden faction. The only Scandivanian faction is Denmark and in the expansion they add Norway.

  • mebye but, i´m from Denmark and sweden com on mann, Denmark are rocks!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yeah. I love all the Scandinavian Countries. Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland(Suomi)

  • Sorry to correct you but Finland is not a part of Scandinavia, but Northern Europe that also includes Iceland

  • Um.... I guess at least it is Nordic... right?

  • Denmark WAS sweden... they owned half of it... skåne, halland and blekinge, and more... thats why...

  • this is the medieval era, Sweden were divided up in three smaller Countrys who fought against each other, The reason Sweden werent in the game was probably because it would have been to much work to put in three Countrys in Sweden with different Units e.t.c. Sure we had many crusades to Finland, wars against Russia and Denmark. But we werent united under one King until Gustav Vasa.

  • In the expansion Total war Kingdoms, they give Sweden similar units of what Denmark has. Only Norway had new units in the game. Gotland Infantry and Sami Axeman.

  • Denmark was smaller in population than Svealand that time. So that's not the reason why Sweden is not in the game.

The reason why Denmark is in the game is because of the many Danish viking and medieval battles.

Denmark also had a very large heavy armored knighthood under the time of king Absalon and many went to middle east to fight the muslims.

  • @enkopingsbo That is true! I have pure fact on that!

  • Various petty kingdoms existed throughout the area now known as Denmark for many years. Around 980 Harold Bluetooth appears to have established a unified kingdom of Denmark. Around the same time, he received a visit from a German missionary who, according to legend, survived an ordeal by fire, which convinced Harold to convert to Christianity.

  • not German, but Italiy.(i´m not sure, but not German.)
