  • Well the first bus had obviously been stopped by the first train. Trains dont run within seconds of each other on one track. The bus shouldnt have to stop if a train has just gone by.

  • The buses that did not stop at the crosssing are unacceptable. However, what the heck was the matter with the buses from Helmet Public Schools???? They stopped! You can't tell from your angle if they opened their door or not. Since they did stop completely, it's probably safe to assume they did open the door. Are you upset about their distance from the tracks? It's possible they were a bit close, but that distance can be hard to judge. Show me the trigonometry that they're wrong.

  • My grandmother drove a school bus and they were instructed to stop at a crossing, open the front door and cross with the door open. Opening the door would allow the driver to see and hear an approaching train more redaly

  • jefferyb304: Yes, the door MUST be opened to allow the driver a greater opportunity to hear and see, but must NEVER be open once the bus is in motion. As soon as the driver determines it is safe to proceed, the door must be closed immediately.

  • yes,it should be closed while the bus is in motion. When I went to school down there, they crossed with it open. One driver I had did not open the door and probably did not stop.

I also remember spotting bus drivers driving with the door open the whole route on hot days.

  • jefferyb304: GOOD NEWS! Operation Life Saver has decided to get involved. They will reach out to the companies seen in the video to correct this problem. Another individual who takes my videos seriously and is committed to safety improvements, helped convince them to act.

  • hooray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • last time i checked garbage trucks and fed ex dont have too stop

  • stuntedcards: The last time you checked what?

  • it also showed that a train travelling at 55 mph can take up to a mile to stop.

  • One of my certifications is that of a NYS DMV 19-A Certified Examiner. Article 19-A, embodied in the Vehicle and Traffic Law, came about due to a collision between a train and a school bus. The train was traveling upgrade at only 25MPH, but thoroughly demolished the bus. 5 children died. They are violating the Cardinal Rule. I'm not done with them yet. I'm trying to get Operation Lifesaver involved.

  • also it showed what happened when a school bus driver thought that the bus was safe after crossing and getting behind traffic stopped at the stop light but did not realize that the back end was still on the tracks and a train came by and obliterated the bus. thankfully no students were on that bus.

  • yesterday I was watching on COURTTV, The World's Worst Train Wrecks and it showed on security cameras in some instances, people crossing the tracks even though a train was not far away from them. It showed accidents between trains and cars, semis, and school buses.
