@KrummyBear for a dude who claims to not like Gareth, you sure seem to be listening to all his songs and commenting on them.. you should change your name to DummyBear ...you just jealous nobody listens to your shitty trumpet playing, you suck dick for bus money and then walk home anyway
You should start a Gareth Pearson tab fund where people donate towards a reasonable target for you to tab out these sick songs so we can spread the love!
@madmanmoo2 you do realize that his style is what it is, and when some one does a cover they do it in their style, if you listen to YES do a cover of AMERICA it sounds crazy, its their style, and you have to realize that this song doesnt have all that of a complex compsure to begin with, so if he tried to follow it eceedingly close, it would sound kind of boring. do you know what i mean? but maybe your right, maybe this just isnt the song to do. but i enjoyed it.
There is indeed no showboating in this tune - but there is in others. That has its place but where it goes wrong is when the essence of the tune is lost in a flood of technically brilliant licks that are added in for effect rather than muscal merit and Gareth's version of the claw is a good example of this. My dabblings are as you describe ,dabblings but I always try to play with enthusiasm. To show what I meant in my post listen to Masaaki Kishibe play "Hana" and you may understand my point.
So you comment on a tune that he does no showboating? You try and cover Tall Fiddler one of TE's showstoppers you cannot pay it so you dabble. You just comment for the sake of commenting. Your head is up your backside. TE and to a certain extent GP are entertainers, and I know I get entertained watching TE and GP. GPs version of the Claw, as you say is his version. Watching GPs Claw entertains me, as it does with the audience by what I hear on the YT. That is what people pay their money for
I always find it odd that people on YT read comments they disagree with then resort to aggressive personal insults rather than agreeing to disagree. Is that not a rather immature? There is no need for anger. My comments were not personal towards Gareth as, if you re read my initial comment, you will note that I applaud Gareth's talent. I have seen TE several times and like Gareth. I have tired of TE's OTT speed and licks at times though and hope that Gareth will not just follow suit.
@syncopater999 Dead right matey. Uber guitarists seem to forget about music and simply try and produce enormously technical songs. Great as a technical showcase, but rubbish as songs, and as pieces of music. GP seems not to have forgotten that songs need to sound good and have some sort of melody to them, and that they need not just be one huge technical exercise! Long may it continue.
You just keep in mind that music is feeling and emotions as much as the groove you put in it. When I heard the Gareth's version of The Claw I was completely into the performance moving my feet at tempo and smiling throughout the 3 minutes video. Your's are preferences on a song or some performances, but the importance is that a showman and a true artist can bring to the crowd emotions, speed licks and groove togheter. And I hope GP will "just follow suit". (sry for the bad english ^^).
Gareth you are a very talented guitarist and have the potential to develop like Tommy E. There is a place for that but all that showboating with dazzling technique can leave people dissatisfied. What really gets through to people is when real depth of emotion is conveyed by the guitar and often this is done by the simpler playing. Witness pinofluvius (Martin Tallstrom) here on youtube. His playing has reached parts of my soul that TE never has. Listen to him and you will understand my point.
I suggest you should take some of the emotion that Gareth has put into this tune and apply it to your dabblings which show no emotion at all. Also, the audience seemed to love it.
Carry on Gareth, I love it and love your playing.
Say what you will about the band, but you would destroy an outkast song. Hey Ya would be incredible.

No anger here,
I just don't get it that you get tired of TE's OTT speed and licks, yet get inspired by one of his fastest tunes, Tall Fiddler???
TE puts on a great show, for everyone. Guitar playes and non players. He entertains. He certainly puts a smile on my face.

@syncopater999 Umm, you're insinuating that being as good as Tommy Emmanuel is a matter of choice... that is a fallacy.
