I got there at 11:30 and by then the front part of the roof had burned away and the front of the building was burned as well... really crazy. Never ate there but it's right next to Sugar Mountain! D: I live like 7 miles from there and it smelled like smoke and burning restaurant at my house...
What kind of theory is that - "somebody broke in drunk and started a fire" at the source of their alcohol that makes plenty of sense - maybe it was a conspiracy and some little elves were pissed so they wanted to get back at Obama and torched AA to gain media attention to meet the pres and throw water balloons at him - Plano is so full of douchebags.
Sad news to hear. I worked there when it was called Sawbucks and they expanded the back area to include pool and darts. Played many dart tournaments in there over the years after.
I drove past Austin Avenue earlier today.... noticed that it was closed. And then later on, around this exact time, my dad and I drove past on our way to Dairy Queen... I was hoping the fire wouldn't be bad. Looks like it's completely devastated. Even though it was a cliche "bar" for old HS friends to reminisce in... it was a gathering place that served alcohol and had billiards. And a patio. It was always there in case there were no other good options. Or you just wanted to go somewhere local.
Aww man, that's a shame. I loved AA. I actually loved seeing the goofy looks on people's faces when I told them, "I'm goin' to AA for a beer." I hope the insurance can help them rebuild. If not... R.I.P.
@eliter14 I got there early-ish and called 911. I left after the emergency crews showed up, though, somewhere after the roof started to fall in. I figured by then I was just in the way.
Yeah we live caddy-corner from the place and smelled the smoke seeping into our house. We went out back and the alley was full of thick smoke. That place sponsors our kickball league. Sad.
How, sad, drove by the ruins of AA today, It was my fav sports bar and I filled out an application weeks ago, now it's toast.

I heard the whole building just collapsed. Is that true?
royazida 7 months ago
@royazida Not quite. It's gutted, though, pretty much just partial walls, no roof.
