@greyndog5 I understand where you're coming from, but you're wrong. most sharks don't close their mouths, because like you, they think breathing is a good thing (they pull water in their mouth, but water with less oxygen out of their gills. also, I'm just geussing on this, but it's probably whatever illness the shark had that caused the deformation around its gills.

@greyndog5 It could have very well have been some form of rare prehistoric species, that struggled to survive. Evolution may not have allowed this species to continue unfortunately- Perhaps the fish was better suited for the depths and contracted complications as it went in shallow waters. (I'm not really into the whole evolution thing- but that's my guess...) perhaps it was better the fish didn't live, since it looked like it was in pain. no need to rule out mutation possibility tho

@estrella869 Actually, it died on its own. The frilled shark is a deep-ocean fish which means that it needs hundreds of atmospheres of pressure in order to live. Whenever deep-sea fish are sick and dieing, they go near the surface (for what reason I don't know). This fish was already dieing, no human involvement at all, the fisherman said that he saw it swimming. Your argument is invalid!
