What a Godawful performance! Do the Purple legend a favour and throw this vid away!! Bolin is just not there, Hughes's pathetic caterwauling is plain embarrassing......no wonder Lord and Paice got pissed off!!
This is a live in Tokyo, Japan in 1976. My friend who went to see this gig told me Tommy Bolin couldn't succeed to Ritchie's estate. Really he was not able to play solo, but just strumming the guitar. Later it was justified on an article that his left hand was damaged by a skirmish at a concert in Indonesia before visiting Japan. It's quite sure then many Purple fans were disappointed with this live and jilted them for Blackmore's Rainbow.
Oh dear, a poor night. By this time as Jon Lord said, they were a joke and were losing their reputation fast. That led to him deciding with Ian Paice to split the band!! And with good reason I say. Shame that drugs and booze have to ruin things. RIP Tommy Bolin, a wasted talent. Hope todays youngsters coming into the music scene take note of all the lost lives and stay away from it!! Peace.

Bolin's solo is certainly weak and Hughes' screaming bugs me. Besides that it kicks ass.
