This is why it's soooo important that permits to build new housing be indexed to population growth. Now we have 20 million vacant housing units in this country, and all the streets, curbs, and water run into the farmland to create these new subdivisions was paid for by the existing homeowner's property taxes. It really was Wall Street, and the government's greatest ponzi scheme yet, and WE WILL ALL PAY FOR IT for decades to come.
