MMS messaging is default multimedia messaging platform, started by nokia, and also later on a part of mobile phones by sony-ericson. MMS has a size limitation to not make it too huge (and thus expensive) - the second difference to normal SMS is also that MMS is sent through GPRS/3G etc, as SMS is sent through normal GSM network.

It has been a standard "Better SMS" at least in europe for many years already (7-8?) so it took kind of long time to add it. I personally use SMS though.

I have a 1st gen ipod, which is the slowest of all of the touch based devices apple has released. Mine actually has become a little bit faster after jailbreaking to 3.0 Not as much lag. Also, the more stuff you have on your ipod, the more prone it is to slowdown. also, a lot of plugins and mods slow things down as well.
