Great song from a great album. Susaye's presence was strong and enjoyable, but I definitely like her more as a soloist in her own right. Having had the honor of a few chats with her as well, I also found her to be incredible gracious and down to earth, and well above the sometimes unkind comments regarding whether or not she fit in the group. Susaye: you fit in just fine - once Mary had Cindy's gowns shortened for you! ;-)
Wow ... This is a rough crowd! LOL! While this isn't really classic Supremes I don't think it's awful. The interesting thing is hard core dance heads LOVE these latter day Supremes cuts, especially overseas. One thing is for sure: Mary deserves much respect for doing the best she could to keep her group alive amidst horrible professional and personal roadblocks. You gotta give it to the sister for trying.
What a flash back!! Thank you for posting this rare video and who cares if they were lip synching, "Come Into My Life" was a great late night pick up song back in it's day! That whole album, Holland/Dozier/Holland production was awesome, another cut I love was "I Don't Want To Be Tied Down" that album got no push nor promotion from Motown, what a shame!
@singlos Hey Los it's me, marysfan. It's a live performance if not live singing as opposed to just slapping up a picture of an album cover and just playing the song's track.
Alright! thanks for posting. I didn't know they made two appearances on Soul Train. This is my least favorite incarnation of the Supremes but they pulled this off so well. Thanks again for posting.
Why do people disrespect Miss Susaye, by saying she did not fit in, Motown thought she did, and that was good enough, for all you Susaye Greene haters get a life, and stop being jealous!
@BlogShag Although you are about 30 years late, it still would not hurt you to get your ears and eyes checked! These women here, The Supremes Mary, Scherrie and Susaye hardly sounded generic (WTF does that mean anyway?). They were spectacular, high-stylists that they were. This is first grouping that had 3 lead singers!
@DetroitLives313 I agree with that to a point, I'd say the most iconic lineup also had 3 lead singers...but yes such an amazing lineup. I just got the album the other day (via a purchase on ebay) and it's incredible! I can't believe allmusic only gave it 1 star. I sent a letter complaining about it and have requested they review the album again!
@DetroitLives313 please, don't try to filibuster me on the issue of these women and their appeal. I've had my ears checked and there is nothing wrong with them. When you grow up with the originals as I did, it's difficult to accept pseudo-fakes as the real thing, cause THEY AREN'T.
@DetroitLives313 (cont) I liked The 3 Degrees and Sister Sledge, so don't think I'm all biased towards DrATS and Diana, but the Post Diana/Jean Supremes just didn't shake my noodle. And yes, they sounded generic- lost all their sparkle when Diana left. If you don't know what generic means, then look it up. You should know what it means.
@BlogShag You liked Sister Sledge and who? I really hope you are not some way, somewhere in your mind even thinking about comparing those groups to THE SUPREMES? HA!
@DetroitLives313 your delusional if you think these women were any kind of influence on the pop music/soul map. They might have been successful on stage, but not with records. And I don't remember Diana Ross and the Supremes getting booed at a concert like these three once did.
@BlogShag As usual generic is your IQ62 that clouds your reasoning and taste! In the 1970's THE SUPREMES reach new heights that during THE DOG & PONY SHOW DAYS of Diana Ross & The Supremes were only reserved for the bosses (Berry Gordy/Motown) pet adulterer Diana Ross. The Primettes/ Supremes throughout were 10 (Florence Ballard, Mary Wilson, Betty McGlown, Barbara Martin, Diane Ross, Cindy Birdsong, Jean Terrell, Lynda Laurence, Scherrie Payne & Susaye Green) and self serving Diane is only one!
What a treat. I don't remember ever seeing this back then. Of course if it was done on January 1, 1977 I was a young whippersnapper and probably still sleeping. I always watched Soul Train for news of any Supremes performance. I missed this one. Great to see Susaye in the lead. Three leads finally and it had to come to such a quick end thanks to that jerk Pedro Ferrer.
Pedro Ferrar really did not know what the hell he was doing. Susaye Greene is very talented--but she just didn't fit into the Supremes. Losing Cindy was a terrible mistake.
this song is great and still sounds good. thank you for posting. that note that susaye hits and then it changes into synth. brilliant. and way ahead of its time.
This is a great clip and a great song from the latter day Supremes. I love the choreography...Scherrie can really move!

The problem with the Post Diana/ Jean Supremes is I never knew who it was singing. They sounded so generic.
