I come back here every so often and find myself posting every time lol. First time i heard this was in the movie La Bamba and I so fell in love with it. I cam only imagine what it was like for those of you who tasted the 50s.We had a much better america then.
WOW ! ..... THIS I SWEAR AND LONELY WAY......THROW IN THE STUDENTS MY VOW TO YOU, FLAMINGOES I ONLY HAVE EYES FOR YOU....JUST FOR STARTERS....THESE KIDS TODAY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY MISSED....
@tonadel Amen . they don't have a clue as to what they missed. Todays music has no soul, just noise. Its predicted that by 2050 this style of music will return and I'll only be 104.
@Archangel506a ....HI ARCH ! .... YOU GOT ME LAUGHING HERE....I TOO WILL BE 104 IN 2050....WITH THAT THOUGHT I JUST DOUBLED UP ON MY VITAMENS....NOTHING CAN TOUCH DOO WOP MUSIC....FILLED WITH HEART, SOUL, RAW EMOTION AND LOVE....
I actually liked this better than the beautiful "Since I Don't Have You". This I swear is true. Great blends of harmony, style and very nice class. I really love the Skyliners. Back then, there wasn't so much distinction in music. The DooWops and Ballads were performed by several ethic groups and combinations. My older sister saw them with her husband at the Tivoli Theater in Chicago and said they were so sharp in Ice Blue suits...awesome!
Exile, you must be a coach or something. Tom Wolfe said you can't go home again and he was right. I've had a great life and expect a great retirement. That 16 year old and I did get together at our 20th reunion, its amazing how you forget the bad and only remember the good. We had gone totally different ways. She will always be Unforgetable, but thats what makes great memories.
I'm afraid I remember this song playing on the radio of my 56 Olds as my high school sweatheart and I sat in our favorite secluded spot on many a Saturday night. Listening to a show called Ralph McKinney's memory lane, I wonder if she stops and remembers when songs like this play.....1966 we were 16 with futures ahead....mine became Vietnam, hers I don't know....but God Bless her for the memories!!!
@bundies13 gosh man, go find that girl and make some new memories! if you only have ten seconds of life, you had better spend every second of it living. just...... look, if you have questions in your heart about anything, anything at all, then please go find those answers. you say in your post that you were 16 with futures ahead right? this is still your future right? stop acting like you lived your life already please! nothing is over! get to work.
What is the difference ? Today they first lay down a sledge hammer rock beat, then have a cycle of chords with not really a tune over it, but a few varied notes.
The changing of the chords makes it sound like a melody. But it is very elementary. Truly beautiful melodies these days, IMO, are rare. But that's what people seem to want.
*Sigh* So refreshing to hear music without swearing or women being called vulgar names. It's all about love and cherishing your lady. If I ever get married I want this played at my wedding with just my husband and me on the dance floor!
i love this song greatest song to tell someone how much you love them.. this was my husbands favoorite oldie song he is not on this earth anylonger but he will always be alive in this memorable song.
Brings back memories of dancing with my sweetheart, me 16 and he was 17 and we were married the next year. He was a fantastic slow dancer and this song was our favorite. He is no longer here but this song takes me back to a good place in my heart. Thanks for the memories.
This song has been going through my head for a long time---I listened to it when I was 14 and it made me a believer in romantic love for life! Celebrating 25 years of "This I Swear" married life next month. Thank you, Jimmy and Skyliners!
The Skyliners were really good. I never understood why they didn't achieve greater or longer-lasting popularity. I was 15 years old when this came out.
1959 that wasn't so long ago but yet so far away. Hell, I be gettin old. To all you youngins out there, look ahead now so you can look back. It be goin fast there young fella.
There were - the other great songs by the Skyliners, such as "Since I Don't Have You." Also there were the many wonderful recordings by the Platters and Little Anthony and the Imperials.
@catman916 this is the most beautiful song ever for someone in love i remember so well how much this melted my heart then and still does. god this is an awesome song.
They don't make 'em like this any more, folks. Thank God for the music of the 50's and 60's.

@snowflurreez When you have a favorite song like this . . . with such great memories to hold close - he
isn't really gone . . . he's right there beside you . . . where he was when you first heard this together.
This is what a Special Song can do for us all . . . . and by the way . it's our favorite song as well
and right at the top of the list when all our old friends get together to just 'hang-out' . . . .
