i have a similar problem to infinityDz understanding the 6th dimension. is the six dimension the possible realities that include breaking phisical laws, or choices i cant phisically make? Example, at noon today i decide to raise my arm or not raise my arm or raise it further (an infinity plane on the 5th dimension) is the "right angle" to that plane a choice where at noon i destroy the particles of my arm? which would be a choice i cant phisically make, hence, creating a 6th dimension?

I think you're on the right track. The fourth dimension is about single causal chains, the fifth dimension is about probabilistic "rays", and the sixth dimension is about the wave function of all possible states for the universe, many of which can not be causally or probabilistically linked to each other. So the parallel universes where you decide at noon today to raise or not raise your arm are in your current version of the 5th dimension. The version of the universe where you...

I have a better example. I have never smoked. There are plenty of potentials in front of me because of this fact. Now if I smoke only one time, I will never be able to return to a universe in which I have never smoked. Instead, I would have a whole new plethoria of possibilities because of the fact that I have smoked one time. But what I really want to understand is : what is another 5th dimension plan? and what exactly is the 6th dimension?

Another 5th dimension plan? Not sure I understand the question. The 6th dimension is where all of those impossible-to-co-exist versions of the universe can be freely navigated within. Once you get to a new position within the 6th dimension, the expressions of the 5th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd, and 1st dimensions that are compatible with that new 6th dimensional position are also automatically part of your new location, which is within the set of all parallel universes for our universe.

building a spaceship, embarking, flying to mars and then start circling; so there is no discontinuity in your line of time. I don't know if you understand what I mean. BUT if you use the sixth dimension, you could of cours go there directly (folding). That's what I first understood when I watched the animation anyway... But then "where can't I get to" if I don't use the 6th dimension? another 5th dimensional plan... ? which is? another person's plan? somethings escape my mind here...

Yes, that's what I'm talking about - the constantly shifting probability space of the fifth dimension. Right "now" there are a ridiculously huge number of possible paths you can head down in the fifth dimension, and one of those could certainly include you getting to Mars. But you would have to jump through the sixth dimension to get to a version of our universe where it's Sept 2009 and Michael Jackson is alive - because that outcome is now no longer part of our 5D probability space.

I think what you're describing is the difference between the fifth and sixth dimension. When physicists say that yes, quantum physics says there is a possibility that one of us could pop out of existence here on earth and reappear on Mars (as one example of a great many) they also say things like "but the chances of that really happening would take longer than the life of the universe". For me, that means those possibilities are not part of our fifth dimensional probability space.

for me, I would say those other "impossible to get from here" states are more like the back sides of buildings as you stand in the middle of the street - you know they exist but you can't get there from here without using an additional dimension to get to those other states.

I'm no scientist, but I'm fascinated by this kind of stuff. I'm trying to get my mind around it... So I get the part we can only move forward in the fourth dimension.

Say we could move freely in the fourth dimension, we could go back in time, but not meet ourself there, and not know what we knew when we started our 'journey back in time' right? So it'd be noon again, and there would still be no way to know that that pizza I'm about to eat will make me sick...

Now say we could move freely in the fifth dimension. I could go back in time kinda like in the 'Back to the future' movies. I could meet myself last noon and tell myself not to eat that pizza, because it'll make me sick. But if 'I' then don't eat the pizza what would happen? Would it magically disappear from my stomach?

Further, if we could move freely into the sixth dimension, could I freely zap into a 'alternate present' where I did not eat the pizza without going back to tell myself?

Yes, these are the scenarios it's fun to consider once you subscribe to the Many Worlds Interpretation (look it up in wikipedia). The "you" that ate the bad pizza is in a different parallel universe from the one who chose not to, and a different parallel universe from the one where he was told not to. Would conscious thought not in essence create the 5th dimension?  Is it the endless possibilities that allow the right angle to be drawn from the 4th dimensional line?

If there were only unconscious objects that existed in the 3rd dimension would their still be infinite parallel universes?

Weird, I posted a response to your great question but I don't see it here today.

I talk about rocks as 4th dimensional objects in "The Past is an Illusion". The thing to remember, I believe, is that the simultaneous branching possibilities we're talking about here as the fifth dimension occur whether a choice is made or not, and this becomes a moral question then - by choosing not to act, we allow randomness or the actions of others to select from the next available paths for us.

This is maybe more of a philosophical question. How does a conscious being affect the 4th dimension? There must be billions more unconscious objects than conscious objects. Using your example of us in the 4th dimension, would look like a long rope showing our birth at one end and our death at the other. A rock would be a rock at the beginning and a rock at the end The Rock does not choose to go to a different hillside it remains inanimate, unless a conscious being interacts with it.

More of a hobby than anything. Physics, string theory, all of that is simply one of many fields I am interested in. I guess you could say I want to learn as much as I can about as many things as I can. But, who's to say I couldn't discover a few things independently?

So, let me try to logic this out...

4th Dimension: I'm walking in the park at midnight and step in dog poop.

5th Dimension: I'm walking in the park at midnight, and manage to sidestep the poop.

6th Dimension: Earlier that day, the dog never pooped in the park, so I can't possibly step in or avoid stepping in the poop when I'm walking at midnight.

All of these things would be relative to one another, of course.

I've heard that time travel is physically impossible, but isn't that only in relation to the 4th dimension? I would think that the concept of a time machine that uses the 6th dimension as a medium for travel could not only take you back in time, but avoid any grandfather paradoxes and such.

The sixth dimension is the set of all observed and unobserved states for our universe. I agree, the grandfather paradox goes out the window if every new decision or outcome creates a new parallel universe. I think the trickier part of time travel will be that it has to be done using folds/wormholes, because anything that actually speeds up or slows down time(as the entropy-derived direction we experience within the fourth dimension) would mess up the chemical reactions within our complex bodies.

Well, that's almost what I was saying. Use the 5th dimension to wrap back around to an earlier spot on the 4th dimensional timeline, and then if your actions carry you into a parallel 4th dimensional timeline, you can then go through the 6th dimension to get back to the timeline you want to be on, and the 5th dimension to go back to the point on that timeline from which you originated. Maybe. I doubt this will happen in my lifetime, or the lifetimes of generations of my descendants.

You may well be right, but the exponential acceleration of information and innovation that people like Kurzweil are promoting as being our future in the upcoming decades could mean that these technologies will come much faster than we realize. One more thing about what you were saying: physicist Anton Zeilinger and his team in Vienna have now conducted experiments that prove the future and past are only probabalistic waves. This means there is more than one way we could have gotten to...

So, I agree with you, this must mean there are ways to navigate through the bush-like branching structure of our spacetime tree to get a place where everything about the past for that particular timeline was as we were aiming for, and the only new thing would be us added in from there on. Whoo. This kind of stuff is mind boggling. I can't help but wonder, though, what will happen to mankind when we advance that far...

It's scary and wonderful all at the same time.

Mathematically, I know it's all possible, but I wish that I had the means to compute this kind of thing myself. Of course, I am only 17 and have plenty of time to educate myself, but I don't know quite how to proceed. Would you have any reading recommendations for introductory physics? Or should I start with calculus?

Excellent question, I guess it depends on whether you want to be on the front lines coming up with the new ideas and experiments, or a teacher, or if this is going to be a sideline hobby for you. If you go to the tenth dimension website there's a navigation link called "Preamble" where I list some of my favorite books that act as an introduction to all the concepts that surround this way of imagining how our reality is constructed.

The idea of a fractal reality where each new planck length creates a new set of branches is indeed mind-boggling. But is it really any more mind-boggling then trying to imagine the hundred billion galaxies and seventy sextillion stars (that's 7 followed by 22 zeroes!) currently believed to make up our observable universe? And I love that the team at Oxford under the direction of physicist David Deutsch have now published a proof that says this is the case at both the quantum and macro levels.
