There seems to be some confusion. This is a newer version of the song, recorded to be part of a 1999 "Greatest Hits" CD. It's the only "new" material on that CD. This is not the mid-1970s version from "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway"
It bums me out that they cut out Phil's part for the vid. I seriously think Peter should return and not be lead singer, but share lead vocals with Phil. Seriously, it's amazing when those two harmonize.
My favourites are a trick of the tail, illegal alien, carpet crawlers, counting out time, i can't dance and the whole nursery cryme allbum... do any of u know what this song is about, the carpet crawlers that is!
It's about the journey of sperm. They got to get in to get out. ie: get in - make a baby - then get out. Only one direction and it's upward to the ceiling. ie: up to the womb.
I prefer the original version but the video is cool..I love those snippets of old concert footage being projected on the walls. Unfortunately they are VERY short. But anyways, the video is a present to every Gabriel-era fan. So now...how about 'In The Cage 2009'? :D
In Turn it on Again: The Hits or Turn(1999) it on Again: The Hits - The Tour Edition(2007). I recomend you to lisen the original if you like this one. Oh, and the video appear in The Video Show, a Genesis DVD. Bye.

the band with all original members could be really special, but since Collins has chucked all his lovie dovie crap in the mix, they have been mediocre to say the least. Trick of the tail and Wuthering were just okay, but cest-la-vie.
I agree with you. I forget to tell my favourites songs in "The lamb..."
They are:
-"Carpet Crawler" / "The Lamb lies down on Broadway" / "The Lamia" / "It" / " Broadway Melody 1974" / "In the cage"... it´s very difficult because i love so much this epic albun.
Great song. One of the five great moments of the GENESIS of the Gabriel Era like "The Musical Box" , "Suppers ready", "Dancing with the Moonlight Knight", "Cinema Show"...
I would have liked to see this done with the complete album version too. The entire point of the 1999 remix was to have Peter and Phil together on the song. Cutting Phil out was kinda defeating the point.
WTF!? Ray Wilson is an awesome! Calling All Stations was a great album! I am also a fan of the Pete and Phil stuff as well. Got the '70-'75 box set as a belated birthday gift to myself
Impressive version and video with a unique Gabriel. There's no other. Maybe Collins can sing better but he can't sing like him. Thanks for this video FrankGenesis
I still have the original vinyl double I bought when "the lamb" was first released and this song has always been one of the most important pieces of music to me....sublime, f#@king sublime....the memories flood in every time i listen to it, beautiful, angst filled memories. it gets no better.
What a terrific voice Peter can have! I love Phil, but I definitly prefer this version,in my opinion one of the all-time most beautifull songs, and a 5 stars vid.
This kicks ass!!! Peter & Phill need to both pull the cock out of there ass and come together and stop being old assholes what the fuck is wrong with them they both need a talking to ALL The fucking money in the world and act like assholes
Love Peter's voice but this vid (same as on the DVD) does not have Phil solo singing the line "..mild mannered ´Superman...". Well at least we have Phil on drums and backing vocals here. So many times people tell me Phils sounds a lot like Peter. Nope, what they are referring to is Phil. "Cinema Show anyone?

I am old school Genesis fan and find it hard to agree with you but I like this version they did very much. I still like the Lambs version the best I think. Although I have to say the 4 times I have seen them they performed it each time and you can't beat that!
I like this version better than the original. I like how it has better use with dynamics and sonic appeal. Also the low end is great and the high sparkle. It's more dreamy.
Ahh I love this song! But I think you gotta watch all the "The Video Show" to get the whole feel to it... I love watching it after that. With all the quick imagaes... it almost brings tears to my eyes.
This was Genesis' 2nd encore song during the tour. It was surprising how few people knew this song as I was singing my butt off. I do wish they would have played "Blood on the Rooftops" and "Man on the Corner",...but, for as long as I had to wait in my life to see my favorite band, I was like a kid in the candy store...thx for the post.
Ahh lucky! I only got to see it in an HD cinema they were broadcasting. Ahh but yeah... Capret Crawlers was beatiful. I loved how Phil sung it low like Peter used to!! ^_^
The best Genesis Songs for me 1. Supper's Ready 2. Carpet Crawlers 3. Vision of Angels 4. Entangled 5. Dancing with the Moonlit Knight 6. Unquiet Slumbers for the Sleepers - In That Quiet earth 7. The Knife 8. Your own special way 9. The fountain of Salamacis 10. Firth of Fith
Trevor Horn produced this track. He did a nice job merging Gabriel's sound as a solo artist with the Genesis sound.. I like the decision to have Phil take a verse.. I think Steve's playing sounds great. Hopefully they will find a way to do a tour of the Lamb in the future..
great mix,...good to hear their older voices together,...
Genesis influences me still to this day,..I still don't understand why they haven't been inducted or even nominated to the rock hall of fame,..they sold out a 30,000 seat stadium here last year in 10 minutes

the original is better i believe for the simple fact that the drums smoother and the harmonies on the chorus are also an important part. ps i hate collins
It was a nice touch to get a guy in this video who looks an awful lot like Pete/Rael in 1974. Makes me wonder what the once-proposed "Lamb" film would have been like.
BTW - If you hear the full version of CC '99 (which has three of the four verses from the original - this extremely edited version only has two), you will find that the last verse is Phil on lead vocals. A nice nod by Peter.
That's what I thought - I knew something was missing. Phil's vocals on this song are gorgeous - the best part of the song, IMHO - but MTV won't play vids that are too long. Still it's quite beautiful to see this vision come to life.
Actually there was a part in there that Ray Wilson was supposed to sing, but it never came to be. It would have only been right to have a reunion song be sung by all 3 vocalists of Genesis.
:-) The Crawlers were my first Genesis song at all. Peters lead vocal and Phils backing voice - a perfect match. I was lucky to see The Crawlers live - both with Peter and Phil as Lead Vocal. This one (as most of the other songs i must say) is definitely one for Peter - no doubt.
just got back from the second show in chicago it was amazing. This was the last song in the line up. Always been one of my fav songs. It was my second time seeing phil collins. He is so much better with genesis than by himself

It was a nice touch to get a guy in this video who looks an awful lot like Pete/Rael in 1974. Makes me wonder what the once-proposed "Lamb" film would have been like.

I LOVE THIS SONG , AND THIS NEW VERSION.

Yeah... shame he didn;t sing on it. :(

This is really done well by Peter. I saw Phil do it last week, but this one is for Peter. His voice is so spooky and cool!

Genesis did reunite with gabriel for a special version of this song back in 1999.
