  • There seems to be some confusion. This is a newer version of the song, recorded to be part of a 1999 "Greatest Hits" CD. It's the only "new" material on that CD. This is not the mid-1970s version from "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway"

  • It bums me out that they cut out Phil's part for the vid. I seriously think Peter should return and not be lead singer, but share lead vocals with Phil. Seriously, it's amazing when those two harmonize.

  • But I've heard and saw Phil sing it in another version of the video.

  • of all the people i know, i'm the only one who likes this album. I don't think the others get it. You gotta get in to get out.

  • wow, this is one of my favorite albums, that's a suprise

  • Very good song. I like it.

  • Brilliant!!

  • What happened to the porcelain mannikin and the tickler? How can I possibly make sense of this admittedly fantastic song without them?

  • Fascinating visual expression.

  • My favourites are a trick of the tail, illegal alien, carpet crawlers, counting out time, i can't dance and the whole nursery cryme allbum... do any of u know what this song is about, the carpet crawlers that is!

  • It's about the journey of sperm. They got to get in to get out. ie: get in - make a baby - then get out. Only one direction and it's upward to the ceiling. ie: up to the womb.

  • Not 2 mention it's MONO! join the 20th century at least!

  • I think we should send frankgenesis on a course on how to use windows movie maker, so he cannot fuck the sound up anymore.

  • I prefer the original version but the video is cool..I love those snippets of old concert footage being projected on the walls. Unfortunately they are VERY short. But anyways, the video is a present to every Gabriel-era fan. So now...how about 'In The Cage 2009'? :D

  • where can u get this song plzz respond

  • In Turn it on Again: The Hits or Turn(1999) it on Again: The Hits - The Tour Edition(2007). I recomend you to lisen the original if you like this one. Oh, and the video appear in The Video Show, a Genesis DVD. Bye.

  • the band with all original members could be really special, but since Collins has chucked all his lovie dovie crap in the mix, they have been mediocre to say the least. Trick of the tail and Wuthering were just okay, but cest-la-vie.

  • Not bad but damned distorted...

  • karlitos you foret lamp lies down on broadway the best of gabriel era^^

  • Oh yeah! "Honkiponki 443"...

I agree with you. I forget to tell my favourites songs in "The lamb..."

    They are:

-"Carpet Crawler" / "The Lamb lies down on Broadway" / "The Lamia" / "It" / " Broadway Melody 1974" / "In the cage"... it´s very difficult because i love so much this epic albun.

  • one of my fav Genesis songs

  • Amazing Video!

Great song. One of the five great moments of the GENESIS of the Gabriel Era like "The Musical Box" , "Suppers ready", "Dancing with the Moonlight Knight", "Cinema Show"...

There are many others. Oh yeah!

    A classic of the Rock.

  • Video bellissimo!

  • Jesus frank i really wish you would sort your auio levels out!!!!

  • Audio levels too :O))

  • In 5union we trust!!!

  • Awesome!! A true fan of Genesis can still remember the words of every song some 35+ years later, I just sang my heart out! Love it!!

  • Good mix and Hacketts there but i really miss his wailing guitar towards the end.

Gonna watch the Seconds out version now to make up!!!

  • Lovely version ! Hackett on it ?

  • Absolutly Brilliant!!

Best version of this song to date! Where did it come from?

  • It's from a Greatest Hits album, I think "The Way We Walk Vol. 1" is the title. This is my favorite version of this song.

  • the baby in the beginning is cute

  • The voice of Peter Gabriel: I love it! This is the best version of this song. Very, very good!!!

  • this is my favorite song

    i love the video too.:)

  • thanks frank for sending one of my favorites!!!!1

  • cheers for posting frank. i was always the one with strange and challenging tastes in music as a young one - and genesis delivered.

  • I could listen to Pete for hours!!!!

  • I like very much this song,is amazing, made by one super great band of the story of rock music.

  • play the one uploaded by fabinamaste, that has phil's mild mannered superman bit

  • there's another audio version with phil on it,look around youtube and youll find someone with that version.

  • YESS...

  • Hey, wheres the mild mannered supermen?

Nice video by the way :-)

  • la mejor canción

  • Who's doin guitar in that song? It doesn't sound like Steve's.

  • It's Steve and Mike.

  • I would have liked to see this done with the complete album version too. The entire point of the 1999 remix was to have Peter and Phil together on the song. Cutting Phil out was kinda defeating the point.

  • Phil is singing a part of this song. Ray Wilson was suppose to sing the last part, but couldn't. That is why it's missing

  • eeek! Thank god that didn't happen...

  • WTF!? Ray Wilson is an awesome! Calling All Stations was a great album! I am also a fan of the Pete and Phil stuff as well. Got the '70-'75 box set as a belated birthday gift to myself

  • if you say so...

    I think he's a total afterthought...

    does nuttin' for me.

  • This is an remixed version right?

  • yeah

  • Fantastic version!

I would like very much the reunion of the band.

PETER, STEVE, TONY, MIKE and PHIL!

Come on! The reunion is necessary by happiness of fans.

    It would be fantastic.

  • Oh my god...... i've been looking for this song for ages!! Kinda hard if you don't know the song title and only know the chorus.... But I found it!!

    Awesome song!

  • this song is incomplete,

    best part is missing !!!

  • Meaning the part where Phil comes in afte Peter? I agree...they cut out Phil.

  • what a track. nice to hear gabriel with his old mates

  • Impressive version and video with a unique Gabriel. There's no other. Maybe Collins can sing better but he can't sing like him. Thanks for this video FrankGenesis

  • Cathy F and Jon L...what the hell happened to you guys eh? 30 years is too long!

  • I still have the original vinyl double I bought when "the lamb" was first released and this song has always been one of the most important pieces of music to me....sublime, f#@king sublime....the memories flood in every time i listen to it, beautiful, angst filled memories. it gets no better.

  • What a terrific voice Peter can have! I love Phil, but I definitly prefer this version,in my opinion one of the all-time most beautifull songs, and a 5 stars vid.

Go and see at SEAL ALERT on UTube...

  • safety first! He, he...

  • Peter and Phil's voices have always been a great combinaison.

  • This kicks ass!!! Peter & Phill need to both pull the cock out of there ass and come together and stop being old assholes what the fuck is wrong with them they both need a talking to ALL The fucking money in the world and act like assholes

  • Carpet crawlers, heated corners, you gotta' get in to get out, you gotta' get in to get out.

There is only one direction... and on it goes.

It's six months ago since I heard this song, and i've not yet started listening to it :)

  • go on Pete keep screeching it out mate lol

  • A nice addition to the original and Seconds Out versions.

  • lol ya gotta love sperm!

    go fellas go.

  • lol.....

  • Love Peter's voice but this vid (same as on the DVD) does not have Phil solo singing the line "..mild mannered ´Superman...". Well at least we have Phil on drums and backing vocals here. So many times people tell me Phils sounds a lot like Peter. Nope, what they are referring to is Phil. "Cinema Show anyone?

  • Think That Tommy Gunns got the first w/Peter?

  • This is a song about... Well, I'll say it. It's about the sad, dreadfull journey, of a sperm on the way to an egg. About the thousands that are lost, and that there is only one who survives. They have to get in, to get out.

  • LMAO!

  • I'm serious. really!!!

  • wtf is this song about?!

  • depends what you feel ...

  • Just amazing.

Genesis is my favorite prog-rock band all times.

    Live Peter......

  • Great! My favourite version, then again it was the 1st version I heard

  • cool vid too bad the audio sucks

  • Peter would want the most influence. This was always a big problem, however , I thought he should have had it. Can you imagine what they would have created if he had stayed??? You can clearly hear his influence in the 99 version of Carpet Crawlers. Check out The Musical Box. Another masterpiece

  • Thay still hold Hackett down not fair

  • Peter's voice hasn't aged too well here. It's interesting 'cos on Up three years later he's on top form

  • fuck u

  • I am old school Genesis fan and find it hard to agree with you but I like this version they did very much. I still like the Lambs version the best I think. Although I have to say the 4 times I have seen them they performed it each time and you can't beat that!

  • I like this version better than the original. I like how it has better use with dynamics and sonic appeal. Also the low end is great and the high sparkle. It's more dreamy.

  • Ahh I love this song! But I think you gotta watch all the "The Video Show" to get the whole feel to it... I love watching it after that. With all the quick imagaes... it almost brings tears to my eyes.

  • The original was so beautiful. Why on earth did they make this rubbish version? At least they planed a proper version on their last tour.

  • they hav e ruined a classic IMO

  • Phil is in there too, on backing. Listen carefully....

  • Agree, but in the original, phil's has a part in the lead voice

  • Phil also has a lead part in this version.

  • who is singing this

  • peter gabriel

  • thanks

  • In the original Phil and peter sings the song

  • it´s very beateful, and very crazzy I´love GENESIS

  • Old Genesis rocks...

  • good ;-)

  • Ya I was at the Turn It On Again Tour in Ottawa, it was awsome

  • This was Genesis' 2nd encore song during the tour. It was surprising how few people knew this song as I was singing my butt off. I do wish they would have played "Blood on the Rooftops" and "Man on the Corner",...but, for as long as I had to wait in my life to see my favorite band, I was like a kid in the candy store...thx for the post.

  • Ahh lucky! I only got to see it in an HD cinema they were broadcasting. Ahh but yeah... Capret Crawlers was beatiful. I loved how Phil sung it low like Peter used to!! ^_^

  • Awesome Version. I have it on the "Turn it on again- The Hits" album.

  • i got that album today

  • Yes, I also have the "Turn it on Again- The Hits".

  • sweet

  • Great ;-)

  • apparently, they had to get out to get out.

  • lame video

  • Trevor Horn produced this track. He did a nice job merging Gabriel's sound as a solo artist with the Genesis sound.. I like the decision to have Phil take a verse.. I think Steve's playing sounds great. Hopefully they will find a way to do a tour of the Lamb in the future..

  • great mix,...good to hear their older voices together,...

Genesis influences me still to this day,..I still don't understand why they haven't been inducted or even nominated to the rock hall of fame,..they sold out a 30,000 seat stadium here last year in 10 minutes

  • Love the song, but the video is horrible!

  • maravilhoso!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Non esistono più gruppi di questo stampo ! rimgrazio i miei 47 anni che mi hanno permesso di conoscere i genesis , i jetro tull , i led zeppelin e pink floid.....

  • questi erano i genesis.

  • feralmusic ....i could hear bjork covering this track. Funny when I read your post I read Dork Its a great verison open your flat head times change Just to here peter and phil play together again is GREAT

  • I prefer the first version :)

  • Peter sings the lead, Phil sings in the background.

  • i could hear bjork covering this track.

  • eeeek!

  • questa e ...musica

  • it's great! i want to sing this with Kelly Clarkson if it's OK with either peter gabriel or phil collins

  • who did this Phil or Peter so confusing?

  • both

  • oh thanks

  • Definitely both

  • oohhhkkaayyyy >_>

  • Genial

  • Jeah, when all was still fun and ok, there was a hell of a band called Genesis, I`m a old fan from day one...And with leaving Peter Gabriel and Steve Hacket the band was murdered...

  • I like all eras for different reasons. They were the best and actually at the top of their game musically between 76 and 80.

  • I'm not joking at all. The arrangements, instrumentation, and song writing from them was always good to me. They just streamlined their sound to be more straight forward starting with Abacab. That whole album still had a rhythmic and melodic edge. The gated reverb effect used on the drums like that was never heard of before.

  • Umm, not exactly. It was use on Peter's "Melt" album or "Games Without Frontiers" in 1980. And became one of the overused effects on drums ever.

  • After Abacab, Genesis albums were hit and miss, but still mostly good. From the Gensis self-title album I started hearing songs I didn't care for...I'm not a fan of "In To Deep" or "Invisible Touch," but most of the other stuff from those albums were excellent. So I would only skip over 1 or 2 songs here and there. At the same time, even the songs that I didn't like sounded great at their live show.

  • Invisible Touch was their only bad album for me. I love We Can't Dance... there are only 3 songs form that album I like the skip. :)

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAH

Imagine if they did this with the whole of the Lamb album, & then took it out LIVE, Holy Fuck Or made a Full length film out of it, I love the Lamb its one of my Fave ever albums but I feel it is Hugely Underrated

  • You're right, it is massively underrated, a forgotten treasure. Not sure that a complete remix would work (as this isn't that good - can you imagine this stuff on 'In The Cage' or 'Colony of Slippermen'???), but would be good to see a reunion tour for the album, 35 years on next year

  • I prefer this version, although I'am a big fan of original Genesis.

  • they re-recorded it in 99. they worked in different studios but it was nice to hear them together again. i still prefer the original

  • i thought phil only sang backing vocals on this anyway !! i can hear him !!! but it was recorded when peter g was with them !

  • Outstanding Video, but i hate how they removed Pil Collins vocals.

  • Phil's singing backup...I can hear him.

  • theres a version on yahoo that contains the mild mannered superman verse of phils

  • A classic of GENESIS.

    A great great souvenir

In 70´s they were one great band.

  • Incrivel!!! Mas gostaria de saber se existe o video da musica original, ou melhor, da primeira gravação las pelos anos 70...Alguém conhece?

  • Meravigliosa rivisitazione di un pezzo LEGGENDARIO...Genesis Reunion in this...

    Grandi GENESIS!

    We are just GENESIANS!!!

  • incrivel, faz pensar, faz viajar e acontece bem naquele momento que uma melodia dessa se encaixa bem.....

  • great song, surprisingly good remake version. video is nicely done, appropriately eerie, tastefully surreal.

  • the song and video are wonderfull

  • I got to see The Lamb 2 nites in a row! Cleveland ,Ohio. first tour, back in the day.

  • omg i got a D+ on my report card... i was so scared then i listened to this and now im ok

it brings a tear to my eye

  • the original is better i believe for the simple fact that the drums smoother and the harmonies on the chorus are also an important part. ps i hate collins

  • Peter, the best voice and singer that I heard in

my LIFE!The second voice that I love is mine!!!ah ah ah

    LOL

    TMG

  • It was a nice touch to get a guy in this video who looks an awful lot like Pete/Rael in 1974. Makes me wonder what the once-proposed "Lamb" film would have been like.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG , AND THIS NEW VERSION.

  • BTW - If you hear the full version of CC '99 (which has three of the four verses from the original - this extremely edited version only has two), you will find that the last verse is Phil on lead vocals. A nice nod by Peter.

  • That's what I thought - I knew something was missing. Phil's vocals on this song are gorgeous - the best part of the song, IMHO - but MTV won't play vids that are too long. Still it's quite beautiful to see this vision come to life.

  • Actually there was a part in there that Ray Wilson was supposed to sing, but it never came to be. It would have only been right to have a reunion song be sung by all 3 vocalists of Genesis.

  • Yeah... shame he didn;t sing on it. :(

  • best music ever. seen them twice once with p.g the other time with p.c

  • i love genesis. and i just love this song!

  • This is really done well by Peter. I saw Phil do it last week, but this one is for Peter. His voice is so spooky and cool!

  • :-) The Crawlers were my first Genesis song at all. Peters lead vocal and Phils backing voice - a perfect match. I was lucky to see The Crawlers live - both with Peter and Phil as Lead Vocal. This one (as most of the other songs i must say) is definitely one for Peter - no doubt.

    Pee Jay

  • The best of all our hopes and dreams, the best band to have ever played, anything, anywhere..

  • just got back from the second show in chicago it was amazing. This was the last song in the line up. Always been one of my fav songs. It was my second time seeing phil collins. He is so much better with genesis than by himself

  • i always loved this song

  • spettacolare

    solo questo posso dire

  • What the f**k is this?? PG backed by "Stars On 45"??????

  • the origenal is so much better

  • I Think, that this is a sample of as genesis it would be listened if they reunited again

  • Genesis did reunite with gabriel for a special version of this song back in 1999.

hopefully we'll get to see them all together one more time in the future!

  • Yes, it's true!!! Peter forever!!!!........
