@Ascendancy25 Well, you'd hope so, as the 20vt Cupras of old entered the market at a lower price-point. Performance return to the pound is more important than absolute performance, as this marks out the goalposts for a fair group test. If this is just a badge war, then the more recent Cupra R would pick up the gauntlet with a wry smile, and likely demonstrate there's more to life than big spoilers and headline power figures.
I'll have to try an get a video of my R up on here against my mates 10 plate RS. I was running a stage 1 remap, 3" turbo back to 100 cell cat and a 2.5" system all the way through, induction kit, split r dump valve (tightened about 15 turns) no front mounted intercooler or anything else an was running 272hp and 315.7 f/lb. of torque an showed him right up in front of everyone he couldn't catch me. Lovely looking cars an sound awesome the focus but would pick the Leon or vag any day. You can't s
Seat got 225 out of a 1.8 20VT whereas Ford only got 225 from a huge elephant lump of a revised and modified Volvo T5 engine which is a tad poor if I'm honest. And before any Ford fans say about the Focus RS being 301 horsepower its still not great, because Audi got 315 out of a 2.2 inline 5 over 15 years ago. Come on Ford catch up! Whatever horses you make now, VAG made it 20 years ago.
Well Honda screw 240bhp from their 2.0ltr non-turbo 4cylinder in the S2000 and Mugen Civic so it's hardly like VW were being revolutionary with 225 from a 1.8 turbo.
You have to remember the Focus ST engine as stock has a very lazy map. You can get 286bhp (evo magazine had the mountine kit installed) just a remap and a slightly bigger intercooler.
@T5R92011 Hardly revolutionary because no disrespect to Hondas engineering but they only screw 240 out of a 2.0 litre non turbo purely down to the fact that A: It revs all the way to 8,000. B: 5,500 - 8,000RPM is the Vtec rapid outbreak zone assisted by a 3rd cam lobe to help it run its Max Bhp for longer. You can say Vtec engines are N/A but you can't say Vtec engines are not assisted with an extra push like a Turbo is when you compare it to normal 6,000 RPM petrol engines can you?
@T5R92011 What I said was Ford only got 301 horsepower out of a 2.5T only recently whereas Audi got 315 horsepower out of a 2.2T over 15 years ago. Lazy map or non lazy map they still only get 301 from a 2.5T compared with 400 horsepower from a 2.0T in a Mitsubishi Lancer 400 FQ and the New Audi RS3 2.5T is set to be 335Bhp. I mean most of the fast Fords have always been Cosworth tampered, give Ford their due they are trying but they aren't quite there yet. lol
@faisalali2001 They do make leaps, just not without Cosworth or another independant racing companies assistance. And be sure not to forget about Audi's R8 V12 TDI = Worlds first diesel supercar. And don't forget VAG were the first ones to manufacture four cylinder sport diesels less than a 2.0 litre capacity with a 150Bhp - 236lb/ft torque output. Most manufacturers only get that out of a commonrail injection system, VW did it without commonrail.
just proves fords are crap you got ya ass handed to you st driver crap shifting crap start crap car i have a leon fr at 240 ish and i would spank you like ya momma used to lol
@htmujddrinker Thats quite a narrow minded view to be honest. I love the Leons but that doesn't hide the fact that with both of them as standard, they both have the same hp and about the same 0-60 figures. If that ST is standard, there was no doubt that it would lose when the other car is modified with about 50 more horsepower. For me, I just love the 1.8t VAG engine. So easy to tune and very reliable.
@EssexMustang true words. on a side note, the ST was not standard, from what i caught he said he had an induction kit, launch control and his exhaust. dont know if if was remapped or not - im not too clued up on fords!
@faisalali2001 Well strictly speaking, the Cupra R and the ST are both 225hp. I swear the ST must be heavier though, at least it looks like it is even though the manufacturers specs puts it a tenth faster to 60. I can't imagine it has been mapped, the ST engine is the same engine as the RS, just isn't tuned. With a map as well as the other things you mentioned, he'd be pushing 300hp which regardless of the driver, he'd not lose that badly to a 285hp Leon. Still, I love both cars so not biased.
@EssexMustang you make a good point, but from what i could tell, he did have an exhaust, and he showed me his launch control working (revs building to 4k and holding when planting his foot down), so based on those i took his word on the rest of the mods. Dont forget - 300bhp doesnt make the car invincible on the strip, my mates got a stage 1 mk6 golf gti with 300bhp, being his first time on the strip he couldnt break into the 14s, and his car is more than capable of low 14s/high 13s!
@faisalali2001 A very good point, i've only now listened to it with the sound on high, thats a very big crunch going into second and if you listen to the revs followed by what sounds like him swearing, you can hear him also missing the change to third gear. Like you said, regardless of horsepower, the Cupra driver does an amazing start and what looks like a pretty faultless run compared to the below average focus gear changes. Hoping that Cupra doesn't have launch control, where's the fun? :P
@faisalali2001 Exactly! I understand it may be the fastest way to accelerate but for a proper driver, it's just boring. Manual control of the clutch is the only way to do it for me.
this is a stage2 leon cupra r running around 270+bhp
i have a stage1 leon cupra r running around 250bhp
and i beat this leon cupra r
focus st would have to be running near 300bhp to beat this leon cupra r as my mate had a focus st running 285bhp and i sat side by side with him in a race up til about 130mph
@seanaldo9187 so leon cupra r stage 1 is faster than stage 2 ... and thats not all....a focus needs 300hp to run this 270hp leon wich lose from 250hp leon wich is equal with a 285hp leon... keep rocking!!!!
@faisalali2001 sorry? you say this was a re race after you tore him apart?? i'd like to see that race please. this leon just wiped the floor with you. keep dreaming if you think you won haha.
