Ride is not my cup of tea. I prefer the traditional finish cymbals over the shiny ones, if only because of the sound. I love the look of the brilliant finish though. I've had both and couldn't find the sound I wanted with the brilliant byzances.

I'm not saying this to be argumentative or anything, it's just that his ride cymbal technique is a really excellent and widely used technique called 'back of the hand technique'. Jojo Mayer, Vinnie Colaiuta, Dennis Chambers, Dave Weckl, Benny Greb and many more use it ALL the time. Check it out dude, the chicks dig it!

The Byzance Brilliant line is intended for heavier styles of music. While I am aware of the MB20's, 10's, and 8's, this guy isn't doing these cymbals justice. While he is a great player, I just don't agree with him using these cymbals for his playing.

@SchecterMeinl Yeah, I would. Bare in mind, because of the way they are manafactured they are naturally very washy, but there is still stick definition there. The bell isn't the most powerful, but still obviously there. They crash amazingly too.

I secondly agree, the Ride is not that much of a turn on. The rest of the cymbals sound great. I'm sporting a Brilliant 16" Med-Thin now, and that baby talks to the crowd. Even at the slightest touch.
