Everyone in the band has really strange guitars. One guy has a strat with the headstock of a tele, and the other is a really weird looking telecaster. Are these French guitars or something?

Actually they're both Fender Bullets! In the 80's they were not yet strats, just affordable mid-y tele style student models.

Yeah, I saw them live in Sydney once and always wondered what the guitars were. The bass is a random Fender short scale thing too, Musicmaster maybe? Love the tone of the axes, beautiful bell-like clean sound that's all over their records.

haha... i liked in the wall better. I thought you meant in the wall of the music shop. Either way i agree. I'm Australian and i just saw them in London at the Astoria and then went to Paris and watched the last show on their tour at L'Olympia, and in their home town. Best two shows I've ever seen by far (even better that Daft Punk). Make sure you see them when they go to Australia next year.
