I am a year older and still getting stuck on "bittersweet" and "nothing else matters" simple rock peices and this kid rips!!!! I take my hat off to you
I came away feeling a little jipped by the phrasing in the opening. It felt like the phrasing was a little rushed at the beginning, but it was still very good for teens, I've seen this same scenario where I play in chicago. When we did this piece a few years back we had a very good cellist who is now at University of Illinois or DePaul University (I think)
Find a way, like the renting idea! We need more classical musicians to keep the wonderful music going, especially in the face of the billions of teenagers who seem to play bloody guitars all the time!! Always guitars! Arghhh! I'm a violinist btw, 17 years old, started learning 19 months ago and I'm about grade 3/4, it's a great thing to get into!
lol, dw. Urm, I'm afraid I don't, I really should get into that more social side of music, it'd be great for musicianship, at least a local youth orchestra. But argh, I'm too socially awkward and shy! And I'd probably be playing with a bunch of kids cos I've started 'late', which would feel rotten. And I can imaigne getting too jealous of others :( wish I could change that. So I'm afraid there's nothing I can recommend, but I'm sure you can find something!
You mean you get the envy? Mine's better when I focus on what I know REALLY matters, both in life and music.
Also, I wouldn't say it's lucky to have unsociable types! I'd love a few more properly musical friends to do a bit of ensemble with hehe. I'm just shy around new people, and no good at playing for people, and as I said, don't wanna be the giant in a kiddies youth orchestra because of my 'lateness'. I looked on your profile - how on earth does a 13 year old afford a 5K piano etc.???! hehe
Nono, I hardly get any envy... Even if I did, I wouldn't know, lol ^^ I meant that I feel the same way as you ^^
Everyone here is about the same level since we all started playing the piano at 4, so there's no problem about "lateness" o.olll So I don't really know how you feel lol. x_x
I've no idea what it would be like to have started at such a young age! I'm going to make up for it though, deffo. And no, I guess you haven't got any reason to be envious because you're one of the early starters! It's quite a problem but I'm way better with it now.
lol, I hope your parents don't spoil you! Nothing worse than an arrogant musician :S ofc I'm not saying that you are, that would be presumptuous. We've got a grand piano, but only because some old person gave it to us for free XD
As a bassoonist and composer myself, I always appreciate hearing from someone who wants to keep classical music alive. Long live classical music! (And this young cellist)!
Long live indeed! Are you a professional composer? I try writing music all the time as a hobby, it's has got better but there's still a lot lacking. I've just ordered Stanford's book on musical composition, hopefully it'll help, wish Mozart/Beethoven/Haydn had written one though!! I'd love to study it for a degree or something, but having started my musical education at this 'late' stage (see another of my comments here for details) I feel I wouldn't get on a course, plus it's competitive after
