Remember in the day when the Apple, Tandy, and PC folks put down the 64 as a "game machine" because of it's colors and sound? Now it's all the rage in the PC world. Commodore was leading edge. If it could do this now, it could have done it then. The machine was ahead of the people. You still don't see this on Apple //e and Tandy machines. Where are they today? ;)
whoa, that got me to check up on the drunken bastards of singular crew, they are still going strong, that's nice to see, they are extremely skilled people with a lot of imagination :)
This is UNBELIEVABLE !!!!.. AMAZING WORK!! .. but the sound in the demo is obviously not relying upon the SID chip!? Does it have something to do with using a CD Audio track via the IDE64?
I.. just ... cant... believe that that can run that smoothly or run at all on c64?! This is pure awesomeness... The music track and everything... AMAZING! <.<
I enjoyed c64 back in 80's, now i'm definitely fan of the many c64 demos avaible on youtube....this is one of my favorites--very very impressive and original! People who complain about not using floppies---so what? There are anough demos whih run only on floppie, this one is different, great isn't it?
Hmmm is that on a stock C64 ? (+ide64) I mean some of the colours towards the end i do not remember being on the colour palette .....I heard of some colours being generated as a result of system interference but............I have my doubts of this being is on a real 64...i hope to GOD it is though..... now where did i keep my C= 64...........
Needs some hacking, as VICE currently creates only 8MB HDD image and Rush needs ~16. CD audio isn't available either. If you are still interested, we can release a preconfigured version for VICE.
Wow!This is one of many reasons I always love dis PC! And yeah, look at this shit and still tell me, it isn´t a real home computer!!8 bit power! This goa-trance sound rulez, too!!!
jci10, don't talk --- CODE! and have a little respect at hardwarefreaks, as they do their job pretty good, as you maybe can see IF you own a real C64 with elay ide64 ON YOUR OWN
Not really impressive as you are cheating. The ide64 wasn't around in the 1980's or 1990's. This would be extremely impressive if you can do this off of multiple 1541 170k floppies and a 1541 drive. Yes, it may need 10-50 floppies and someone fast enough to remove the floppy and place the next one in, but if you can do this using 1982 technology, THAT WOULD BE IMPRESSIVE.
First public versions of ide64 were done in 1997. That's 90s. Isn't it? If you can't understand why it's a technical mistrey, try it yourself! Pump 200kb/s graphical data trough the ide64. That's impossible. ...or not? :)
Hooking an ide64 to C64 might be impressive, but for me (and other hackers), your demo has to be able to run back in 1982 using equipment from 1982. If not, it's really cheating...
That's really impressive, just a shame about the colour pallette really. Wondering how much processor time is left after doing the refresh. Got some cool ones on the Atari which play captured video and audio straight from the IDE. Not as good sound as straight from a cd tho lol.
What next? FMV on a 2600? mow that really would be a challenge!
No scpu was used, that's the reason why only 4 colors are available each frame. The scpu version of the player is able to output multicolor (16 colors) pictures with 25fps...
That's one excellent prod. Old computers, urban decay, perfect sync, and psy: everything I like. You guys seriously rock.
