@BornUnderYourStar Other than the Title Sequence and lead up to this scene, nothing important to you. If you're really that interested, buy it (as I have).
@frellthat This reasoning of yours just sucks. I love this movie, and it's nice to sample it here and there, but I've also bought it several times on various formats. If you're going to steal, at least admit it instead of trying to justify yourself with this moronic reasoning which just makes no sense.
@errolfan I own two copies of it- VHS and DVD. I'm just wondering why part 1 would violate a copywright but parts 2-14 don't. I just like things to makie sense, which they apparently don't at U-Tube.
@44032 I think it may be the easiest way to protect copyright. Instead of trying to target all the bits and pieces, concentrate on the most important one. Which would be the beginning or end of the movie. Considering they don't know how many parts there may be, why not target part 1? Very logical. You don't get the whole movie unless you pay for the missing part.
Pirates in real life never attacked a Spanish War Galleon , they only attacked defenceless trading ships. Nevertheless this is an entertaning movie and i enjoyed a lot when i was a kid. It's a shame that Hollywood doesn't do serious movies about this topic anymore.
@themailman43 I couldn't agree with you more about a serious pirate movie. About the closest thing I've seen recently is "Cutthroat Island" with Geena Davis from several years ago. I didn't see the whole movie, but some of the action scenes are quite good. On the small screen, Horatio Hornblower (A&E) from about the same time was excellent.
@sommnambulist Can anyone explain U-Tube's policies on copywrighted material? Their decisions- such as taking down the first part of a 14 part film but leaving the rest up- make no sense at all.
Great lead-up to the appearance of Errol Flynn. You Hear him, before you actually see him. I'm sure this technique has been used since, but I don't remember seeing it prior to this film.
I wonder how large/complete their model ships were. In the Shogun miniseries, they used a full scale replica of both a Japanese galley and the Golden Hind (for the part of the Erasmus).
Corny dialogue, but the battle sequences and the ships are first rate. Great combination of model shots combined with full size replica ships. Hollywood got it right.
Haha Last night I watched Captian Blood and today this... and it very clear that they have some of the same clips of the battle scenes in each movie... I guess it was cheaper that way.
Why is the first part missing? I love that analogy between a certain German politicians of that age with King Philip II of Spain. Besides this nasty little war propaganda this film is one of the finest pirate movies of the old times; today the pirate topic in cinema is ruined by the commercialization.
@mig15fan: Why, thank you; but on what in particular do you agree? About the obvious analogy between King Philip II in the movie and a certain German tyrant, obsessed with motorway building and other things? Or about how Hollywood has ruined the pirate movie genre? Or do you about both things at once?
Well, you were right on targert in all topics! and to tellyou the truth I think holliwood has ruinbed almost all old genres, take a look what they have done to westerns! now we have gay cowboys!!!
@mig15fan: You are for sure right about the Western genre! I miss John Wayne, too but nothing more savage was done to the Samurai movies: Luckily Akira Kurosawa died a couple of years before they made The Last Samurai! I think of Ran or Kagemusha and will go now vomiting!
Oh man I love this movie!!! I used to borrow it from the library all the time when I was little!

My favorite Flynn movie. What I really want is a Dolby 7.1 score, color and maybe 3-D. Is that too much to ask for?

Does anyone know if anything very important happened in the first part?

What is the matter with you people (or should I say, pirates)? If you like a movie, BUY IT.

@errolfan Why? Everyone associated with its production is either dead, or no longer working for Warner Brothers.

Regarding the galleyslaves, I think it must be much harder for the fellow who are
responsible for the rytm, banging away with the big clubs all the time, than rowing, and he is not even a slave.
