In 1987...Me & my friend Rena phoned Micheal at the Caesars' Palace in Las Vegas just minutes before he was going into the Ring for a Fight...Rena's Father Rino Orsato an Italian Custom Boot & Shoe Maker from Vancouver BC asked us to give him a message for Rino...( He had just finished Making a pair of White Leather Boots for Micheal & wanted to wish him Good Luck : ) I always wondered if he really did get that msg before the Fight...Well, on July 6, 2010 I contacted Micheal to ask him : )
@LivinFree999....@LivinFree999 On July 7, 10 Micheal replied to say "Yes, he did get the message from us. Right before jumping into the Ring... lol...He was shocked to say the Least (x)(~) Like what are the 0dds that 23 yrs later he finds out who phoned him : ) And he did say that He loved those Boots. I told Micheal to go and Say Hi to Rino for me...through him I could just see his Reaction
very good match, iran is a lot bigger an stronger, but u gotta admitt that Olajide can take a hit pretty good, hes also really good as dodging, an he has a good job, Iran just had too much power for him though
Olajide looks like he watched a lot of Barkley videos and thought to himself, "this guy Barkley is nothing. He is a mug and my superior skills will run rings around him". Then, when Olajide fronted up to Barkley during the stare down, he realised, "oh shit, Barkley is a big, big, very big monster and as strong as an ox".
It's clear Olajide lost confidence in himself and realised he didn't have the power to beat Barkley. Barkley just went through Olajide and knocked him out
His chin was exposed as an amatuer in Vancouver B.C. His Dad ran the Kingsway club in Vancouver and I fought a few club shows there. One night he fought a short stocky kid from Oregon and he got tageed by a right and down he went. Knew from that moment on he never had a major league chin. I think he found out himself that night and he was never as confident in himself. His younger brother was a better fighter.
yea i dunno, my dad was tellin me about this shit back in the 80's how he was trainin olajide with his dad or somethin, i dunno lol. not tryin to make myself sound like i kno the dude
Yea i think Tokunbo was a lot better but Tokunbo didn't take it as far as he could have. his skills were far better then Michaels tho...i would like to c Tokunbo fight again.
i remember first reading american boxing magazine like ko, world boxing in 1987 when i was only 10! But i was fanatical about reading about boxing. It was so exciting and new....and what i remember is the New York press hyping Olajide to the hilt as the new sugar ray leonard, flashy and well spoken etc. He was only 22 and was already a top 5 contender. A shame his career burnt out before 25. A talented guy and boxer.Great writer too hes still in amazing shape
thank you so much!! i have been looking for this fight for over a year. huge barkley fan, the blade was never in a dull fight and i wish i fought jackson or mccellan (before the devestating incident).
''barkley says you can call this a make or break fight... its going to make me, and break him'' hahaha

He managed to go 12 rounds with Hearns tho. That was an accomplishment in itself.

A sparring session, that's all this fight was.
