This is from the pre-PBS New York TV show "Soul! from February 9, 1972, where Anna Marie-Hosford (Thelma Frye on "Amen" and Dee BAxter on "The Wayan Brothers" got her start as assistant producer). One of the writers of this song was Katherine Anderson Schaffner of The Marvelettes. Another excellent version of this song was done by fellow Marvelette Ann Bogan when she was part of Love, Peace & Happiness (a division of New Birth) along with Leslie & Melvin Wilson (also on YouTube).

Gladys Knight was the kind of artist who intimidates other accomplished artists, like when Smokey Robinson heard her demo of "tracks of my tears" and didn't want to record the song after hearing it, it was TOO GOOD ... or when Diana Ross made Berry Gordy replace GKATP's as the Supremes opening act on the road, because they were TOO GOOD
Gladys and the Pips are right up at the top of the list of the greatest vocal groups ever. Only a couple of other women have ever had the vocal Soul Power of Gladys, and these days there aren't any. Beyonce? Not even close. On top of it Gladys was so beautiful, both inside and out, that she actually glowed!
Ms Knight can blow!!! I was in jr high and in love with a girl who i just couldn't get...until i was in my 30's! 1971 she let me slow dance with her to this song...
Sista Gladys is what soul music is all about. However, Anna Maria Horsford is the same woman that played Dee. If you are speaking about the character from "What's Happening", that was Danielle Spencer.
I Just Read My Post And I wanted To Correct Myself. Anna Maria Horsford is not the Same Person that Played Dee on What's Happening, That Was Danielle Spencer who is Now A Practicing Veterinarian.
YEAH!! Can you beleive that is her. She was 26 years old, she surely doesn't look like she's even close to 60 but she was born in 47.This is her first show she worked for.
This is my Queen of Soul &I do not care who likes or not!!

I can't take it !!
I must have listened to this song at least 20 times today.
They are sing LIVE!!!!!...The band is smoking..The BGV are so clear.
And Gladys is SLAYING this tune.
It's VERY rare when a LIVE performance exceeds the original recording.
Gladys & the Pips Killed on this tune..
Listening to this particular performance made me appreciate the Pips EVEN more.
Those brothers are BLOWING on the BGV !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the BEST performance that Glayds has ever did.
This video is very VERY rare...This show was directed by Stan Lathan (Sanna Lathan's father...Stan also produced the "Fresh Prince of Bel Aire).
The Legendary DJ, Mr Gerry Bledson (From NYC) did the voiceover
Stan Lathan also produced this LEGEDARY concert
The 1973 Save The Children Benefit Concertildren
Check it out when you can !!!!

This is from the PBS series "Soul". It was produced by Anna Maria Horsford of "Thelma Fry" fame. This was before her acting career took off.

Yes New Birth has a version just as good. It is simply a beautiful song. The only thing you need is a great vocalist.

You know, I questioned that to when I read it. I'm thinking it might have been her mom or something considering when this was made.
