  • "La corneta que suena como cuando una chica te dice 'sí'".

    ♫ ♪ ♫♫ ♪

  • I played this recording to a jazz fan and he guessed it was Lester Young on the sax. The interesting story is that Young heard another member of the band listening to this 78. He heard Trumbauer's solo and bought the recording for himself and took it with him everywhere he went for the next decade. And the influence on Young's playing is obvious.

  • @Coney01 You're confusing this with Singin' the Blues.

  • This is Bix's voice at its best. He's alive and in the room with you. Makes me cry.

  • haha weet-bix beiderbecke

  • why were they all so good ...after the strings at 1.o...CMelody for me

  • For those who don't know Bix, just wait til his solo @ 1:00-1:30 gets better - 2:00.... masterful. And he did it differently every time, and not with sheet music. Sheer genius.

  • sweet!

  • @MarkAnderson1958 Thank you so much, it was a very comprehensive and useful explanation indeed!

  • Simply amazing! I am new to dixieland, and this composition is an embodiment of everything I love in it! Lush and tasteful arrangement, it has so much in it!

  • Listening to Bix (which I have been doing for 60 odd years) is like reading a great poem by a great poet. Every timyou read it, you find something new and interesting that you had not seen (or, in this case, heard before). Thanks. alkuhn1

  • Bix lives. I mean, this is where we come from, culturally, musically. emotionally. MUSIC. alkuhn1

  • This has to be one of my all time favourites !!! Thanks :-)

  • acredito nunca ter ouvido um solo de trumpete (improvise)tão esplendido como este de Bix.Jazz really...

  • First class post.

    Thank you for sharing.

  • I don't know where the description of the musicians came from, but merely saying Bix was "an American jazz cornetist" is like saying Bing Crosby was just an American singer, or Jimi Hendrix was just an American guitar player, or The Beatles were just a British rock combo.

  • simply AMAZING

  • This is my favorite Bix solo!

  • FredrikTers, thank you so very much for the information and I thank you even more for taking the time to e-mail me on the subject. I hope we can begin a dialogue to examine this very worthy subject because I am very interested in this type of music and it's history.

  • I noticed that all the starring performers had German names and whenever I listen to Three Penny Opera I am struck by the similarities in tempo, key changes and other dynamics. Gotta do some deep research about this to find out if I am right or imagining it, how and if they cross-pollinated. Should be fascinating however it turns out.

  • Trumbauer and Beiderbecke certainly had original German names. Eddie Lang however was born Salvatore Massaro, an Italian-american who later took the name "Eddie Lang" after some sport idol I believe.

  • I agree with Bob - overprocessing has sucked too much of the life out of the recording - check out some other postings to compare. Still, the music pulls the heart right up there despite the electronic ear cotton. Bix Lives

  • esto es magico,

    muchas gracias

  • This era of Music was ideal for this combination and they blended well. Trumbaur recorded up until around 1939He retired from music and became a Flight instructor for the War Department (He was also an accomplished Aviator). I have his recording of "Blue Moon" on

Victor from 1935. He was beginning to sound old fashioned by this time when the commercial and swing sound was in fashion. He wa a product of his time after the war he did not perform at all, and continued his career in Aviation.

  • That is one beautiful recording!

  • MODERN !!!

  • Overprocessed. Everything Bix recorded is already available on CD, from Origin Jazz.

  • uncanny!

  • I think Bix did some of his best work w/ Trumbauer

  • Marvelous as always - gotta love Bix, he was the best.

  • maravilloso

  • Bix nails it, again. This time it's with so emotion. I can hear him talking to me throughout the song. Kudos to Tram, also. What a great pair they made.

  • What a sound this group has! And what a solo by Bix!

  • this is my favourite of all the recordings from bix beiderbecke,a classic when he was at the top of his powers

  • another of my favorittes thanks for posting. I have many of Bixs songs

  • What can one say? Bix's solo is otherworldly beautiful.

  • Recorded on May 13, 1927...

  • Cool! i had a C melody sax, good music

  • Bix´s solo is AAA

  • Superb!

  • One of the greatest recordings of Bix.
