Vocalist Gayle Moran (married to Chick Corea) had that calm soothing voice that provided the contrast needed to the furious note races by McLaughlin and Luc Ponty. Great complement to the recording for the already convinced. If you can sit through all this with a sense of calm and ease then your stress level is satisfactory.
@gunnarMyTube Michael Tsarion is the worlds premier conspiracy researcher/lecturer/author. Dr. Bill DEagle, Jordan Maxwell, Leo Zagami and Alexandre Dumas pere are highly informative as well. p.s. Melting Euphoria is similar to Ozric Tentacles and Gong.
Saw this incarnation at The Schaffer Music Festival in Central Park, NYC. I was stoned as hell on pot and remember this show as clearly as if it was yesterday. Michael Walden was amazing. Jean Luc was awesome. Ralph Armstrong was great. John killed it.
i get the comment about some saying this didn't fit the album. I had that experience.
Until, (decades ago) lonely withdrawn socially adelpated me did heroin instead of going to the h.s. prom. seemed natural at the time. (maybe still....)
Now i don't recommend this methodology - i will die early of hep c despite 30 years of abstaining - but:
that night i *understood* this piece for the first time. Mike Gibbs arranged the orchestra on the studio version. Beautiful.
@luigi3717 I don't think the lyrics were ever published, which is a pity. Some people have criticized the inclusion of this song on in the album, but they miss the point of it. I've been hearing this for over 35 years now, and it still never fails to captivate. There is something extremely haunting about the way she sings it. The studio version, of course, is much better, but it's good to see this video in any case.
I have some musical, mystical recomendations for your troubled soul. Gong(from England)and two bands influenced by them but without vocals are Ozric Tentacles(from England) and from the bay area is a band that is now defunct and you cant find their stuff on youtube is Melting Euphoria.
Actually the sound quality is reasonably good . However the sound quality of parts 2 and 3 put up by the same user are poor sound quality . Its great to hear and thanks for putting them up , but why the big difference in sound quality. According to a fusion web site a mahavishnu dvd may be in pipeline , lets hope it includes some material from mahavishnu mark 2.
It´s just BEAUTIFUL...! Wonderful and well tempered voice. Classic jazz fusion.

This takes me back to 1979, and what a comfort this music was; is. I could play it, but no amp for the turntable. I wonder if it's in DVD?

It's called "Power, Passion and Beauty" by Waletr Kolosky. Check Amazon.com

Is this Gayle Moran? I knew of her from Return to Forever. Didn't know she was in MO. Or is this someone who sounds like her?

the chorus during the instrumental section is "blessed are the pure in heart". Her vocals are clearly understood if you listen to the album version.

Wish I could hear what she is singing after the band kicks in....do you think she is doubling those ridiculously fast guitar and horn lines?
wanderingmenstruals 2 years ago
nah, shes harmonizing with the keys, you can hear it fine on a non-live version
orphiccoma 2 years ago
You can also hear her when she's singing from 6:53 on.

@wanderingmenstruals She is singing "Blessed are the pure in heart" when the band kicks in. I read this in the Mahavishnu biography.

Super sweet voice to go with a great MO tune.
Any way to post the better quality vid? Maybe on a dotmac account or something?
